The Great Unraveling
NYT ^ | 9/15/14 | Roger Cohen

Posted on 09/16/2014 8:26:28 AM PDT by Baynative

It was a time of beheadings...It was a time of aggression...It was a time of breakup...It was a time of hatred....

It was a time of weakness. The most powerful nation on earth was tired of far-flung wars, its will and treasury depleted by absence of victory. An ungrateful world could damn well police itself. The nation had bridges to build and education systems to fix. Civil wars between Arabs could fester. Enemies might even kill other enemies, a low-cost gain. Middle Eastern borders could fade; they were artificial colonial lines on a map.

America is still the greatest political experiment ever attempted.

I have faith in its people.

I have faith that when we are simply sick of it; when the malaise hits the majority, we will right ourselves and get back on our feet.

MOST Americans are not paying attention.

They are starting to wake up.

I have faith that our experiment will continue to be successful.

"Americans no longer have the political will to make tough decisions and do difficult things."

When a people become too civilized to do what's necessary to survive in an uncivilized world, they won't survive, nor do they deserve to survives.

We need to be more fond of war than them. To totally steal yet another person’s quote:

“No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.”

That guy had a lot of really good quotes about this topic. Unfortunately, most liberals would read them with revulsion instead of respect for their eternal truths.

Our government is essentially corrupt. The bureaucracy no longer answers to congress and congress no longer represents the people. The govt is handing out money that they know is claimed fraudulently and doesn’t care. The govt is refusing to enforce our immigration and other laws that they find inconvenient.
I think a majority of people..would vote to make us independent of our current govt in DC..just as the people of Scotland may vote to make themselves independent of the current govt in London.

Susan probably doesn’t know how to make coffee in her own kitchen. She drives to Starbucks. But that’s OK, she drives a Prius. Susan’s idea of “roughing it” is a Comfort Inn with no free HBO. The precious “natural beauty” of the world she only experiences in her manicured yard or local park, maintained by the labor of others.

Susan votes.

Susan is why we will never win another war.

Meanwhile...it’s like we are in a 66 Rambler and just parked on the street with no fuel and no map...waiting for November of 2016 to come and lift our spirits.

My perspective is not so begnign. See tag line.

This sort of stuff usually ends in bloodshed.

2016 is likely not going to help.

I agree. I’ve lost faith in both parties. And both are too far gone. So is our economy. There is no human solution to this. At least, not a peaceful one. I have no doubt that lots of bad guys are drawing plans and know their time is short. But they know they have time (see tag line).

Many of us knew obama would be horrible, but we didn’t know it would be this bad!

But some of us...I bought my small farm in central KY two weeks before the 2008 election. It took me a few years to find and get connected to the IT job market here, but I was able to move here from Seattle in 2011. It really took a lot of the pressure off regarding where the country is going.

Elites at the New York Times didn’t give a damn when ‘the boots’ were being killed.

They didn’t care when SEALS were being killed in Benghazi. But they damn well sit up and take notice when REAL people... when liberal elites.. are beheaded. By God, man the barricades... people of great worth are in danger.

Your analysis of our “interesting times’ was a little better received here on FR than was a similar analysis I wrote ten years ago:
