ALBANY, N.Y. - Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for a so-called "bill of rights" for victims of Social Security identity theft.

The New York Democrat said Wednesday that he's pushing legislation that would enhance the penalties for thieves who use a person's Social Security number without their consent.

You'd think Chucky would have added this to his "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" Gang of 8 bill, since his beloved illegal aliens are frequently using "a person's Social Security number without their consent."

Maybe Jeb Bush can call Chucky to tell him that identity theft is indeed an "act of love!"

Anytime you see “bill of rights” in the name of legislation — what it really means is “expansion of government.”

EXEMPT Schumer put in the known-felon criminal illegals
to RUN ObamaCARE. This is an attempt at plausible
deniability for the EXEMPT after their
forced “transparency”
(ie. release of everyone personal info).

Uh huh. How about going back to what was orignally printed on the card: “this may not be used for identity purposes”. Done.

ISIS is cutting our people’s heads off and this idiot is talking about social security fraud and people’s bills of rights. We already have a Bill of Rights. Democrats should read it once in a while.

What a fraud.

Guy will talk about any populist issue he can find and dodge the real issues.

What about all the illegal aliens who use fake ID's based on people's social security numbers?

Will they be exempt from these enhanced penalties? Only Americans who steal other Americans' social security numbers will be penalized?

Ding, Ding, Ding we have a winner!

How many GS(insert grade) would be hired for the Department of SS Rights within the SS-Admin. These new folks will be dues paying SEIU Employees, with outlets in every Federal Building, Nationwide. Hmmm..., I wonder who's kids, other relatives, or volunteers from community organizations and or Campaign Volunteers would get hired in these jobs.

Of course, senators and House critters will be ***exempt*** from any such legislation, as they are from the laws, rules and regulations we plebs are subject to.

Uhm........It’s a felony already.

That may be, but the government doesn't prosecute aliens that steal SS numbers. It also doesn't help the victims of identity theft--I hear it's almost impossible to get a new SSN if you are the victim of a clever identity thief.

Anytime you see “bill of rights” in the name of legislation — what it really means is “expansion of government.”

Uh huh. How about going back to what was orignally printed on the card: “this may not be used for identity purposes”. Done.

1. Put “this may not be used for identity purposes” back on every Social Security Card. I would include using something other than a person's SSN plus the letter "A" for Medicare, as well - that's another source of ID theft.

2. Create a citizen number - which would necessarily require a citizen ID card of some type. THAT number can be used by insurance companies, retailers, etc. The "etc." will perforce include voter ID purposes, as the card I envision will have both a photo and a fingerprint. The SSN can ONLY be used for SS purposes and for IRS-related matters (such as on the tax forms themselves, including 1099s, W-2s, K-1s, etc.), which would allow the banks and financial institutions to continue using the SSN, avoiding the costs of putting in a new number for all of those accounts.

3. Enforce #1 very harshly - make an example of a number of people, companies and institutions, after a suitable grace period. The grace period would coincide with a huge amount of advertising on TV, radio, print and the internet, as well as a notice with every person's annual SS benefits statement an the 1040 that they are sent. No one will be able to credibly claim that they didn't know about the change.

Oh, wait, Upchuck Schemer will never go for it, it involves a national ID card. But that is the solution to BOTH the ID theft problem and a large part of the illegal immigrant problem.

This will have disparate impact on the undocumented. What a heartless bastage Schumer is.

“Uhm........It’s a felony already”

Indeed it is, but here in Arizona I have seen judges let the illegals off by claiming the use of someone’s SS # for employment did not mean they were stealing their identity; they just wanted to work.
