Are we dumber than our grandparents?
Social psychologists are tracking IQ scores and noticed a decline in the last decade after a steady rise since the 1950s. Some wonder if the recent downturn reflects genes that have been eroding all along. Are we evolving stupidity?
The concept of eroding genes—steadily but slowly marred by new slightly harmful mutations that occur every generation—has its proponents and detractors. New Scientist consultant Bob Holmes wrote, “The most controversial explanation is that rising IQ scores have been hiding a decline in our genetic potential.”1
Holmes reviewed IQ score trends from Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Denmark, the UK, and Sweden. They show similarly rapid rises in postwar test results that peaked in the 1990s, and have steady declined since then.

Does this track the change of IQ of areas that have very little immigration compared to those with high immigration?

Yes, I’ve had this viewpoint for some time.
Definitely, not as educated.. I think most kids, even minorities with ASL got better schooling at the elementary level in our grandparent’s day than the kids get today in college, taking out the factor of progress in modern science and technology. Dumber, as in stupider, I don’t think so. If people are dumber today, it would probably be due to the chemicals in our lives.

We are stupid compared to our founding fathers.
We are graduating people form school that can not read or write.
Two words: T.V.
ESL = English as a second language
In some groups IQs are going down. In others IQs are going up. In evolution variation is the name of the game.
High IQs tend to match-up with other high IQs. Low IQs tend to match with other low IQs.
I do believe the low IQs are currently reproducing at a higher rate than the high IQs.
Maybe in the future the groups will be different enough to be identified as different species. Maybe one group will destroy the other. It’s happened before. It will happen again.
Government intervention has sped up the process of lowering IQs in at least a couple of ways: 1) They have decimated the effectiveness of schools purposefully. 2)They have made it possible, and vigorously encouraged, idiots to procreate at much faster rates than most intelligent people choose to do. Therefore, average IQs are falling.
Stupid people reproduce in greater numbers than do intelligent people. In a world of welfare payments on the one hand and third world necessity for large numbers of children to tend the farm and guarantee that some of your bloodline survives, declining numbers of intelligent people is possible. Intelligence these days is less necessary for survival. However when TSHTF that will reverse.
Who are we spreading it to?
The ones who can't or won't produce value.
How are we spreading it?
Affirmative action, welfare, lowered expectation, entitlement mentality, high taxes to fund comfortable lifestyle for freeloaders.
Is it any wonder that the low IQ's are prospering?
It’s my opinion that humans are more stupid now than they’ve ever been. I truly believe that the most illiterate medieval peasant had more sense-—common sense, certainly-—than many today, and would be shocked at the blank-eyed dumbness he would find in this age.
Just one case in point: last week’s Fox expose of college students being asked what event happened on September 11th. Most of them didn’t know the answer, even after being prompted.

Along the same lines, I would add that responsible people don’t have children until they can afford it.
But it takes longer and longer to get to that point and biological clocks haven’t changed.
Even those who may want (more) children find they can’t when they are able to.
IQ scores are racist. That's what the problem is.
I think people in the 80s were smarter to. I was a teenager and I did stupid teen things, but I knew common sense when it came to politics. While most of my friends were worrying about girls and football and partying(Which I did also) I was thinking of politics and the world.
