A toddler found submerged in a tank of baptismal water in an Alabama church died of accidental drowning, the local coroner said on Monday.

Brayden King, who was two months shy of his second birthday, was under the supervision of a sister in her early teens when he fell into the tank on Friday at the Pentecostal House of Prayer in Decatur, about 75 miles north of Birmingham, said Morgan County Coroner Jeffrey Chunn.

The toddler was found in 33 inches of water and declared dead after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him, Chunn said.

I mean no slam on Pentecostals, the story seems far fetched though.

What a tragedy. You literally cannot turn your back on a toddler. I’m just heartsick reading this.

I have always had a pool at my houses and learned early on that the more adults around, the more danger the pool presented to children. Everyone assumes someone else is paying attention. When we had a party with children invited, one of the family members had pool guard duty.

Commence with the arguments as to whether it "counted"....

Good points. No pool here but we always had to be extremely careful down by the river.

*8Playing angry birds while handling snakes is a tradition I am told.**

At a Pentecostal Church?

No, someone was attempting humor at the expense of others, at a very inappropriate time.

**You have never experienced the chaos that is a Pentecostal church?**

Hey......I found you in the Bible:

“Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine”. Acts 2:13

If it’s appropriate to mock these people here, under these sad circumstances, then it’s appropriate to mock them at the funeral as well.

Go for it. /s

Toddlers are top-heavy and not very strong. If they fall in head first, they can drown pretty quickly in a bucket of water or a toilet bowl.

I am disgusted by some of the comments on this thread.

I'm with you on that, and I'm not exactly a holy roller.

Everything happens for a reason.

In this case, carelessness.

You know, people have been doing crazy stuff for ever and using the Bible as cover for mind control for ever. If you want to condone those people who substitute emotion for brains then go ahead. Every Pentecostal service tries to out do the last one. They mercilessly whip themselves into an emotional fervor, each trying to out do the other.

We (Christians) are supposed to just sit back and cite cultural differences instead of saying the emperor has no clothes.

These crazies do the gospel no favors.

Hype, emotion and volume can and does often become a substitute for reality, esp. in the superficial society in which we live, yet institutionalized faith does more damage due to the numbers.

And when a member of one truly becomes born again then we can see how sometimes there more alarm over a pot that boils over then one that is not even simmering.

I remember our Baptismal font when I was a kid, there was at least one locked door to reach it and then another door to get to the water. Also the tank was empty when not in use.

Also, these days, people think nothing of children playing around the front of the church as if it were a playground.

If the tank was full for use and someone knew it, the church is also liable because they should have been more careful about making sure that didn't happen.

This poor girl is going to have to live with this the rest of her life.

Young teen means 13-14. Where were the parents?

At least they aren't "Dead" Churches. GOD judges the churches and faith and love overcome much so does leading one to Christ. Pentecostals aren't snake handlers as one poster mentioned back in the thread. There's a few snake handling churches in my county so I've heard. There's is not your typical Pentecostal service or any such service for that matter many Pentecostals would recognize.

My neighbor is a Church of GOD minister and some call them Pentecostals. He's a good man who has devoted lots and time and effort in service to The Lord. A church even the same denomination such as Church of GOD can be as different as night and day depending on the pastor and congregation. As well some members take things way too literally such as spiritual gifts and your faith will heal you and if not it's your fault etc. Most of their pastors however will not say this.

But the thread is about a tragedy. Who's to blame? I'm sure many feel some guilt. It sounds like a tragic accident. Sad to say we are in an imperfect world of imperfect humans and the family needs prayers.

A church function can be lots of things including a fellowship meal outside of the sanctuary itself usually in another large room. Doors locked to the Baptismal pool in some churches would not have stopped a child from say climbing over a choir seat and falling into the pool. Miscommunications of who has a kid also happen even in the best of circumstances. The teen watching the child may have thought an adult or parent had the child who knows. We weren't there.

The Toddler is home with The Lord that much we do know for certain. The child was not of the age of accountability and thus an innocent child.
