A word about posting satire
September 29, 2014 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 09/29/2014 3:38:42 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

No, FR is not trying to quash satire. However, it should be clearly labeled as such in the title. Some people seem to think it's great trickling our readers into falling for satire. It's not. A lot of people come to FR and scan the headlines clicking on articles of interest. If they're not familiar with the author or source, they may be misled and may even pass it on to others. No thanks.

If you post satire, please label it as "satire' in the title.

Thanks

Good policy. There are so many incompetent and bizarre actions from this administration that it’s just too easy to make satire sound entirely believable to someone not familiar with the posters.

John Semmens is not at fault that people don’t take the time to see the 3 or more places that it is labeled as satire.

Just about everything they say about religion, science, morality, the constitution or any political issue whatsoever would be considered satire if they had not already turned the world upside down and inside out.

Jim,

Thanks for clarifying this for the regular satire article followers. I know there were a few articles (Not John’s) that were way overboard.

I hope this helps define the playing field and we always appreciate the variety and usefulness of all the great range of threads. Now with the rules clear, we can follow the things that we like — or don’t like.

I don't get why John's writings are constantly being singled out. Good grief! He can affix the label “satire” to his posts in 15 different places and people STILL complain they've been had. Don't you folks READ?

If John's posts upset you so much, here's an idea: DON READ THEM. If you see the author is John Semmens, scroll down to another thread You are under no obligation to read every thread on this site. Skipping over those writings which disturb you will save you a lot of grief, while at the same time, allow the rest of us to enjoy John's satire.

We're supposed to be grownups here. Let's act like we are.

Wrong.
I’m not using FR to promote my own writing.

Vanity posters and Bloggers ARE.

Certainly there is no "LOOK AT ME!" factor involved.

Thank you.

It’s often too hard to tell the difference between satire repeated on FR and the actual crazy news of the times.

Let’s all be straight-forward, reliable, truth-tellers.

Is that satire or not?

I just call those shameless lies, especially when discussing such Obama lies with leftist acquaintances.

I don't get why John's writings are constantly being singled out.

He thinks he's "all that" and posts only his own stuff.

He's not about communicating anything but his own material.

Charge him a fee or throw him in the dumpster, I say.

JR, thanks for saying this.
Far too much satire was being mixed into regular news coverage.
This allows readers to more easily skip comedy writing.

John Semmens’ pieces are clearly marked “semi news; semi satire”. He still tricks me nearly every time. That is just a good lesson about how we should all read more carefully and with more discernment.

Do you mean that Eric Holder is NOT going to JP Morgan Chase for $77 million per year? LOL
