Scouter's Ebola Projection Update - 10/4/2014 - (Vanity)
To: Vendome; scouter My wife just flew into Newark from Brussels. Been waiting on the plane for 1 1/2 hours now to deplane. Medical emergency onboard with a passenger vomiting.
They have to wait for the CDC to come interview the person before they can leave.
Consider travel plans carefully.

Good idea. How about a lawsuit from “the people”? Sue the government for purposely jeopardizing our safety?
We have to do something and quickly. The CDC and Obama are incompetent.

OK....when I post a analysis, I do try to shorten it up and leave out a lot of what I think most people understand already.
The fact is that we do NOT have proper leadership. We have the power through Congress to direct the Presidents actions, but we have not been able to use that power with the Senate refusing to bring up bills, and Obama refusing to sign them.
We could tack legislation onto a budget or a funds request, but so far, most of those opportunities have been sidelined or failed. So legislatively speaking, we can’t do squat to either curb the visas or better yet, do what we did in the 40s, and take a pause by stopping all legal immigration while we sort out what we have here illegally. If I recall that pause lasted until the Kennedy admin.
So yeah, I understand the desire to do something, but nothing will get done like that as long as the rats have the presidency and the senate, unless we force them by tacking it on a funds request for ebola funding..or whatever.
But there will be a price to pay and our current republican leadership will not do that until the lame duck at the soonest. So you could try then...before the new Congress sits, or you can try after they sit..
But I am convinced they probably would not consider it. I think the quarantine idea might make more political sense to them. That is why I suggested it.
Belgium can keep them if Belgium wants, but the US can absolutely revoke visas for health reasons—and keep them from boarding planes to the US. Have you never flown internationally?
And who cares whether their story “checks out” or they have only arrived for a “day meeting”?
Finally, how hard is it to understand that this is about Ebola?

I can’t imagine the thoughts going through your minds right now. I just sent my wife out to CT via aircraft to visit her brother, his wife and newborn twins. I figured, what were the odds of getting on a plane with an Ebola infected person? Prayers for you and your wife.
Not aware of that, it’s possible, but I don’t know what if any damage that would do in the short time that the virus takes to kill. They generally bleed out combined with organ failures.
They try to keep them alive with fluids intravenously, but it leaks out faster than they can put it in. It is possible that will all the fluid losses, you would have vitamin deficiencies at some point. In fact I would think it very likely.
I would not kill for money if that is what you mean.

It is fact THAT you were arguing in favor of money over people. You are against ANY TYPE OF SAFETY PRECAUTIONS over here such as denying West Africans from coming here and securing the U.S. borders until Ebola pandemic is resolved.

LOL...ok...look...I am in my 60s....for over 50 years I have been bombarded with this vitamin C malarkey. There are several posters her singing it’s praises as well.
Scurvy takes a while to develop. It is essentially a malnutrition issue. Humans do not make their own V-C like animals do.
We have been treating ebola patients for over 30 years. I am sure they are getting the best IV treatments available and if a doctor thought for a New York second that Ebola patients were suffering from vitamin C deficiency, I am sure they would add it to the saline.
We did have a discussion about her travel to Belgium a couple of weeks ago. In light of the Dallas case.
It was a business trip, and she decided to go for it.
We were totally ignorant of the flights through Europe to the US originating from West Africa.
I know I'm done flying.
