HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A man opened fire on a group of home invaders inside his family's northwest Harris County home early Friday, deputies said.

One of the suspects died at the scene while the other two fled in a getaway vehicle. It all happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 23000 block of Botkins Road in the Hockley area.

Family members told deputies that their mother was in the kitchen cooking breakfast with three young granddaughters when the armed men broke in. The woman's adult son heard the commotion from his bedroom and grabbed his gun.

"… and when he heard 'please don't hurt the girls,' that's when he took action," deputies said.

The son wasted no time in shooting and killing one of the suspects.

It is a very interesting type of crime? Not something one normally sees unles there is something to target in the home.

“something to target in the home.”

“they were heard speaking Spanish as they entered the home.”
“ their mother was in the kitchen cooking breakfast with three young granddaughters”

Mexicans? Three young granddaughters?

Id say the targets were the granddaughters.

I live in the country here in Texas. I have a .38 in my night stand at night and in my car during the day. I have a semi-automatic .22 in my closet and a sawed off 12 gauge shot gun under my bed. All my neighbors, albeit somewhat distant from me, are cool. It’s the meth heads and crack heads, who want to steal what I’ve worked hard for, that my small arsenal is for. I promise you, if they come in my house, there will be “On-the-spot Rehabilitation”.

Not something one normally sees unless there is something to target in the home.

Not so. Meth heads and crack heads will steal anything they can; even the copper out of your central air unit to sell at the metal recycling center.

If you truly do have a sawed of shotgun, I hope its registered and the tax stamp is paid, or else you have made a serious mistake.

Thanks for the concern, but, apparently you do not live in Texas.

I do live in Texas. A sawed-off shotgun (barrel less than 18”) is an NFA device and must be registered as such. That is a federal law, so your state of residence doesn’t provide any cover.

The suspects were heard speaking spanish when they entered the home, so I suspect that they intended to kidnap the children for ransom.

A growth industry for the southern boarder states thanks to our government’s no boarder policy.

this experience shows why you shouldn't bother telling the intruders to drop their guns, or tell them to put up their hands, or anything else. Just start shooting.

It’s not for the sake of property, but for the sake of life, that the law is the way it is in Texas. Never forget that.

Yeah, but meth scavengers don't usually attack homes that are occupied. I have seen them cut catalytic converters out of vehicles in a business parking lot.
