Patient quarantined in Kansas City (Ebola ping!)
KWCH ^

Posted on 10/05/2014 6:57:48 AM PDT by TigerClaws

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -

KCTV5 reports an apartment building in Kansas City, MO. is being sealed off Saturday night, and a source close to KCTV5 says it's because a person who lives there is sick with something contagious.

Police at the apartment building told KCTV5 that all or part of the medical facility the person was taken to is now quarantined as well. The person was taken to Rockhill Research Hospital. No one at the hospital will confirm what the person has at this time.

We'll continue to follow this developing story, and bring you updates as we get them.

CDC rules on the importation of monkeys:

http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/monkeys.html

Why are monkeys regulated but people can come here from a hot zone with zero restrictions?

At least they appear to be taking the possibility more serious than did the medical people in Dallas...

Here is the direct link to the KCTV5 article, which gives a teensy-weensy bit more info.

Channel 5 is the only one carrying the story as far as I could find.

Amazing how quickly the locals can quarantine and seal off possible contaminated areas on their own without the interfering incompetent CDC. There may be hope yet.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Correct me if I’m wrong but here’s why I think the decision not to cut off entry into the country from West Africa is suicidal.

1) We’re told that an infected person is asymptomatic and not contagious for the first 8 days or so. That idiot judge in Dallas took great advantage in that fact with his “same shirt” photo op.

2) We’re told that the screening protocol for passengers boarding flights to the US is to look for symptoms, i.e. take their temperature. That is supposed to prevent someone contagious from a) infecting his fellow passengers and b) bringing the disease to the US.

NOTE 1: we’re told that one simply needs to take ibuprofen to reduce their fever under the 101.5 threshold. Is that what the Dallas victim did? Our screening protocol is hardly foolproof.

3) We have the report from FReeper Onana’s wife that the NJ plane with the vomiting passenger was loaded with people from Liberia including unaccompanied minors.

SO ... let’s suppose each and every one of those Liberians were exposed to a sick relative YESTERDAY and received enough of the virus from bodily fluids to be fatally infected with the disease. THEY WOULD ALL BE ASYMPTOMATIC!!! There would be no outward signs of the disease and could simply lie their way through any screening questions. But in 7 more days, each and every one of them would be deadly to everyone they came in contact with.

Some may present themselves to a hospital at the first sign of illness, their flight to the US being solely for the purpose of first-world medical care. Others might be oblivious to their fate, though, and they are the ones who will spread the disease. And dare we consider that one or two may be deliberately intending to spread the disease?

Seems to me we’re already sown the seeds of disaster. It would be frightening to pull from ICE the count of Liberians who have entered the country in the last week, fortnight, month.

Please tell me I am wrong. Please!

The guy in a coma in Dallas LIED on his paperwork when leaving Liberia.

He knew he had carried the young woman who died in her own house when hospitals couldn’t take her due to overcrowding.

In one respect, he better die——if he lives, he will be charged criminally, and his life won’t be worth a plugged nickle. Someone will kill him for what he has done.

How have so many Liberians gotten Visas to come here in the first place????

Wehave enough sick people of our own to take care of.

Not wrong at all. And if Duncan survives that will further open the flood gates to miracle cure called America.

If he lives he will keep costing us money.

If he lives that will encourage others to invade America to get treatment.

The hits just keep on coming.

The apt. is located across the street from African-Centered College Preparatory Academy. According to http://www.greatschools.org/missouri/kansas-city/5423-African-Centered-College-Preparatory-Academy/ it is rated a pitiful 1 out of 10. Demographics shows 96% Black 9 (more visiting relatives from Africa?). Test scores in the 10s and 20s. I don’t know what college they’re prepping for but Harvard it isn’t.

Updated 20 minutes ago. Very strange.

http://www.kctv5.com/story/26707306/kansas-city-apartment-sealed-off-after-resident-quarantined

“This comes after a Kansas City apartment building was sealed off Saturday evening when a person who lived there became seriously ill with something that may be contagious, a source close to KCTV5 News says.

The building is located in the 3600 block of East Meyer Boulevard on the city’s east side.

The person was transported to Research Medical Center Brookside Campus. All or part of the medical facility was then quarantined, a source close to the situation said.”

My concern is confirmed by the "Patients Unaware" section of the article linked by this thread: High risk Ebola could reach France and UK by end-October, scientists calculate. And I'm not a rocket scientist, it's just bleeding (npi) obvious.

Ebola certainly can take off like a rocket.

“Duncan says, “If you look at the way it spreads, it was spreading at a rate of around 30 miles in two to three days. Bubonic plague moves at a pace of around 100 yards a year.”

http://www.designntrend.com/articles/18109/20140818/researchers-argue-black-death-due-ebola-bubonic-plague.htm

One story was citing Sierra Leone having 5 new cases an hour in a country of 6 million. Okay, our infrastructure and such is much better. That proportion to the USA would be 250 an hour for a country of 300,000 in rough math. Sure, I don’t think we wil be like that but if we even touched something like 25 an hour it would be a catastrophe.

Dallas heightened the publics awareness.

Until Dallas everyone assumed the govt was doing the right thing and stopping people from these countries from entering the country.

Not only are they not stopping them from entering but the non action is acting as an encouragement.

This isn’t incompetence, it’s planned.

If Duncan survives, he should be shot for potentially harming so many people. (no sarc tag)
