The terrible truth about cannabis:...20-year study...demolishes claims that smoking pot is harmless
Daily Mail ^ | 10.6.14 | Ben Spencer

A definitive 20-year study into the effects of long-term cannabis use has demolished the argument that the drug is safe. Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, the study found.

"The truth is if mankind cannot control themselves, laws will"

So would disagree with your contention and counter that is not a founding principle of our nation.

They would also argue that what an individual does is his business alone if it does not harm another. And any attempt to control it would be considered a violent assault.

Some of these crazy folks actually believe that mankind should control the law...and how/when/if it's enforced.

James Madison and Thomas Jefferson were two.

When you fry your brains with dope and the taxpayers have to pay for your medical bills then you harm all of us.

Not that it matters to you, but libertarians don't want that.

How many examples of making something contraband do you require to understand that prohibition never works?

Alcohol prohibition failed. Gun control is a failure. Putting pseudo ephedrine behind counters hasn't slowed meth trafficking one iota.

I don't smoke marijuana, but I am tired of the taxpayers' funds being wasted on JBTs to fight it, especially as that fight is ineffectual by any metric.

On the flipside, I don’t want to pay for incarcerating people just so judges, policemen, jail guards, and attorneys can have a good living harassing and punishing people for something so minor.

Do you know the difference between a drunk driver and a stoned driver?

A drunk driver will blow right past a stop sign. A stoned driver will sit & wait for it to turn green.

You and me both. And, for me, pot was definitely the gateway to harder drugs.

I’m glad that crap is 30+ years behind me.

Guess what? People then weren't pot heads. They had morals. The founders talked about "when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders"

We're there. And people like you helped.

Laws aren't to protect you from yourself. They're to protect the rest of us when you're higher than a kite.

The madness in CO is going to end with the voters repealing the marijuana law. We aren't all stupid out here, and sanity will prevail.

LOL!

It is either that or the stoned driver is still sitting on his couch thinking about where he might find his keys while he has them in his hand and then just eating something instead.

It doesn’t have to be smoked. I know someone taking it for pain, it is very effective and only requires one dose per week. YMMV.

Kids need money for all kinds of things. They always have. Unfortunately many of them are wasting most of their money on weed these days. They're so addicted to weed they spend almost all of their money on it. The pot supporters should think about where that leads.

Sorry, it’s not going to go down because of Federal Law. The Feds have, and will continue, to look the other way here in CO, as they have everywhere.

As with all important issues, this is going to have to be done by the voters.

The people I knew in high school who used cannabis went from being capable articulate people to generally unmotivated sponges. (Honor roll to dropouts.) I know at least one who went on to heroin and died before her 18th birthday.

found at:

http://www.populartechnology.net/2014/04/150-scientific-studies-showing-dangers.html

“Perception of marijuana as a “safe drug” is scientifically inaccurate (University of Montreal)

Cannabis more damaging to health than previously thought claim doctors (Imperial College London)

see first link for more.

I think we still stop people from committing suicide. Prohibitions against marijuana are intended to prevent intellectual suicide and damage to society. I do not, however, support civil seizure without trial, or excessive sentences for minor possession.

“Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, the study found.”

Too funny. When I was a kid in the fifties, and sixties (more than twenty years ago) we were told to “never smoke dope”, “mary jane”, “weed”, because it’s “addictive, makes ya nuts, and starts ya on the road to hard stuff”.

I guess those unenlightened folks back then weren’t to be believed.

Lotta stoners on FR it seems.

I'm pretty sure there are more ex-stoners, given the average age around here.
