Did she have a niece named Annie?
Annie's Aunt Fannie--The Midnighters (1954)--one of the "Annie" songs that came out in 1954-1955.
What does that matter? They are great-grandsons of a woman hired for a short period of time, to act as a depiction of a fictitious character. The company has changed the depiction several times, the most recent one hasn't been around long. And the woman was not the first to depict this fictitious character. She was hired, she got paid, then she died. End of story.
I really enjoyed using Aunt Jemima syrup on my pancakes in my youth, very popular 60 years ago. Now, not so much. I really think they should not have modernized her depiction.
Is that Meadowlark Lemon?
Did she get paid? I personally have no knowledge as to whether or not she got paid or whether the company surreptitiously took her image for commercial purposes.
If the company did pay her fairly, for the times, this lawsuit will likely not get far. However, if it did not, it’s s lesson for corporations to ensure they don’t expose themselves to lawsuits like these.
SOL means Statute of Limitations among other things
and if they win ,$2 billion should just take care of the Back Taxes
“Any one can claim theyre a long lost relative and they always appear when theres money”
They can?
Sniff. My poor old aunt jemima. Exploited all these years by those capitalist pigs.
Er, I’ll take my reparations settlement in cash, thank you.
My bad, I think it's Michael Steele.
Kind of hard to surreptitiously take her image, when she was hired to portray the fictional character from about 1933 to 1952, touring the country on behalf of the company. They've changed the likeness of the image more than a few times.
Take for instance young women hired to portray the likeness of Snow White or other fictional Disney characters at the theme park. Should their offspring be entitled to sue for a portion of Disney revenue after the woman dies because they used "her" likeness?
Well, seeing the success the NFL had banning the “n” word from use on its properties etc. (Remember the Black players are suing because they say the directive is discriminating towards Blacks because they are the only ones that use the word).
Anyhow, if you really want to make their heads ‘explode’ just replace the Black Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben with White people.
Can’t use Spanish people because they got their backs up over the “Frito Bandito”. Can’t use Muslims cause they would say it is an insult to Mo..(Of course that we are living and breathing is an ‘insult’ to Mo in their opinion)
If the company paid her out fully, as stipulated in her contract, than this lawsuit will not likely succeed. However, if it didn’t then this lawsuit may have merit.
The courts won’t likely treat the lawsuit very seriously if there is no basis for it.

I don’t know about that. If they ‘push’ it and stall until Al and Jesse get involved, the parent company will pay them off just to keep from getting boycotted or whatever...
More extortion...from JJ & his band of thieves.
I made an error in my reply to you. Anna Robinson portrayed Aunt Jemima from 1933 to 1951. The subject of the lawsuit, Ann Short Harrington, portrayed the character at some events and television shows in the New York area, and has an even more dubious claim to the character than others who portrayed Aunt Jemima. At least seven different women portrayed her fictional likeness.
If she wasn’t the original character, the only concern for the company will likely be whether or not she was fully compensated. If she was, this lawsuit will not go anywhere.
According to some, the person in question was provably not the original, but one of seven women who did public appearances portraying Aunt Jemima.
This lawsuit will not likely go anywhere. The only way this lawsuit could have had merit is if Aunt Jemima was based on this woman.
They might get a few thousand, but it’s often cheaper for a corporation to settle for a small amount than fight it, but they will not get anything beyond that.
this was back in the news a while ago. I’m surprised it’s re-surfaced
Some of these advertising symbols were OK.
I kinda liked the Ivory Snow girl. ;-)
