Paul Krugman: In Defense of Obama [on why Obama is a historic success]
Rolling Stone ^ | 10/09/2014 | Paul Krugman

When it comes to Barack Obama, I've always been out of sync. Back in 2008, when many liberals were wildly enthusiastic about his candidacy and his press was strongly favorable, I was skeptical. I worried that he was naive, that his talk about transcending the political divide was a dangerous illusion given the unyielding extremism of the modern American right. Furthermore, it seemed clear to me that, far from being the transformational figure his supporters imagined, he was rather conventional-minded: Even before taking office, he showed signs of paying far too much attention to what some of us would later take to calling Very Serious People, people who regarded cutting budget deficits and a willingness to slash Social Security as the very essence of political virtue.

And I wasn't wrong. Obama was indeed naive: He faced scorched-earth Republican opposition from Day One, and it took him years to start dealing with that opposition realistically. Furthermore, he came perilously close to doing terrible things to the U.S. safety net in pursuit of a budget Grand Bargain; we were saved from significant cuts to Social Security and a rise in the Medicare age only by Republican greed, the GOP's unwillingness to make even token concessions.

But now the shoe is on the other foot: Obama faces trash talk left, right and center – literally – and doesn't deserve it. Despite bitter opposition, despite having come close to self-inflicted disaster, Obama has emerged as one of the most consequential and, yes, successful presidents in American history. His health reform is imperfect but still a huge step forward – and it's working better than anyone expected. Financial reform fell far short of what should have happened, but it's much more effective than you'd think. Economic management has been half-crippled by Republican obstruction,

Didn’t Krugman get fired from Princeton recently?

Anyhow, I like Mr. Nobel Prize’s statement about how ObamaCare is working better than anyone expected. Even tho it’s not true, it’s still an admission that he and all of his fellow travellers supported it despite thinking it was going to suck.

Krugman is so far out of step, he cannot even put together coherent ideas. This is absurdity at it’s finest.

“unyielding extremism of the modern American right”

Saving the lives of the unborn, upholding the sanctity of marriage, preserving the rights of the Constitution, paying my bills on time and taking responsibility for my own actions.... yep, extremism of the modern world.

I plead guilty as charged.

Seriously, Paul?

At the very least, this should put Krugman on the cover of Rolling Stone sporting an enhanced package.

He is absolutely correct: Obama has been incredibly consequential....To miss this is to be in denial. If he weren’t consequential, he wouldn’t bother us.

Sure, I always source the Rolling Stone for insightful and accurate political commentary.

Krugman, how the hell can you write such a piece in a kneeling position, anyway?

Of course he’s consequential. Krugman believes he is successful too.

I’ll bet Krugman has a picture of Barry’s feet hanging right next to his bed that he kisses every morning when he gets up.

Who's the better liar? Barry or Pauly. Pauly has been kissing Barry feet since 2007.

Obama has emerged as one of the most consequential and, yes, successful presidents in American history.

Undoubtedly, to a confirmed America-hating, no deficit is too big, jackoff like Krugman.

Obama has sped up the demise of America's special place globally, opening the door to the ever-longed for global Marxist state.

Once that utopia springs forth, Obama will transformed into a statist deity and Krugman will be remembered as one of his prized eunuch standard bearers.
