Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee threatened to leave the GOP and run for the White House in 2016 as an independent if Republicans “capitulate” and support same-sex marriage.

“If the Republicans want to lose guys like me, and a whole bunch of still God-fearing, Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue—and go ahead and say abortion doesn’t matter, either,” Huckabee told Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, on Wildmon’s “Today’s Issues” radio show. “Because at that point, you lose me; I’m gone.”

“I’ll become an independent,” he vowed in an interview on Tuesday. “I’ll start finding people that have guts to stand. I’m tired of this.”

Huckabee’s declaration came a day after the Supreme Court cleared the way for a huge expansion of gay marriage in as many as 30 states and the District of Columbia. …

Hmm. Ted Cruz you are not, Mike. You lost a ton of credibility over the other RINO-backed issues.

That’s true, but good on him if he’s serious.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Huckleberry.

You need to be conservative on a lot of issues, not a few, Mikey

Know how you feel, but I attended a pregnancy crisis dinner a few years back with Mike Huckabee as keynote speaker.

Changed how I feel about him. He is a pretty conservative fella.

Didn't vote for him in the primaries a few elections back, but if it were Huckabee, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham.....I'd pick Huckabee.

Say what you will about Huckabee, but he has never wavered in his Christian stance on abortion and gay marriage.

But his support of those that do not share his views thereof undermines him in that respect.

On this topic, I support his comments. No morality, no society.

A lot of others should be saying this as well.

Words mean nothing. Actions are what defines the man. Support for Lamar Alexander over a conservative is just one example.

the only problem is, if Huck or another conservative runs for president as an independent or 3rd party, it just guarantees that a Democrat, probably Hillary, becomes the next president.

Conservatives need to stay in the Republican party, in my opinion, and work to change the party from within. Liberals did that to make the Democrat party increasingly liberal.

This is part of an old debate with no resolution, namely, do we want ideology purity, or do we want to win elections? Are the two mutually exclusive?

Comments are easy to support. If he backs them up with action sufficient to put paid to his moderate-in-action past, then I would be convinced.

Talk is Cheap, Huck. If they haven’t fought it up to now, they never will. Might as well make the move now.

Eh? Who was fighting it? Not him, to this point. One can only lose when one at least tries to fight.

When I saw the headline, I thought it was gonna say he’d leave unless they abandoned the fight against SSM. Maybe the field is getting crowded with too many RINOS and Huck wants to stand out a bit.

I say, to heck with putting party loyalties first. How’s has that worked out for us.

If he is sincere, putting God first, is the courageous stance to take.
