First Lady and school nutrition advocate Michelle Obama’s stringent lunch guidelines are limiting children to just one ketchup packet per meal.

A recent EagNews.com article profiled unhappy Idaho customers of the Obama administration’s revisions to the National School Lunch program, including a parent who called school lunches “not edible” and kids who have stopped eating lunch completely.

“Kids can’t take two ketchup packets [for burgers] because that would set them over on calories,” said a Burley, Idaho “district food-service secretary.”

Now Michelle has decreed that ketchup is a dessert - and you can't have dessert.

For savory pies, use lard. For sweet pies, I use coconut oil. It makes a lovely, very flaky crust. I made deep fried (in coconut oil) hand pies recently with the coconut oil crust. The husband is pouting because it will be a few weeks before I can make him more. I am laying a wood floor down, one room a month...
I cannot do that and process the last of our garden while maxing goodies. He will live...laughing...

You can also use sunflower or a favorite oil for the fat. I personally find olive oil revolting in pie crust dough.

I make our condiments from scratch. I use brown sugar for the sweet part of the ketchup I make.

Unfortunately, I talked with a woman whose father worked at a plant that made frozen French fries. They use rotten potatoes. They are soaked in a substance that hardens them and then somehow “bleached” to make them seem fresh, then process them from there. Those that are beyond chemical doctoring goes in animal feed. My husband said if the food plant he worked at got soft apples, they would do the same.

I now make all fried or deep fried tators fresh, usually from those I grow. Never talk with commercial food processors,..

The secret to the perfect PB&J is to slather a layer of butter before adding the PB and the same for the jelly/jam half. For grilled cheese, butter both sides of the bread slices, grilling, turning over then adding the cheese to both slices to slightly melt before putting together and finish grilling.

Yes, I am thin. I eat real fats. Phony fats pack on pounds.

I would rather follow someone who stands up for individual freedom than someone who wants to control how much water my toilet uses in each flush, what kind of light bulb I use, how much ketchup my kids get with their meals, and every other tiny detail of our lives. "Freedom" - true liberals would support that concept.

Holy smokes! I never ate like that at school as a kid and I sure do not eat like that for lunch now!

Yesterday’s lunch was a homemade tuna salad sandwich and ramen noodles spiked with a handful of mixed frozen veggies!

I wonder how many kids aren’t getting enough calories vs. those who might get too many. They seem to take what they would consider an average kid, who is so tall, weighs x-pounds, and is y-active during the day and then apply that basis to all the kids - totally ignoring that some might weigh 75 lbs and others 45 lbs, with some over 100 lbs for any given Elementary school.

The Obama kids get to eat Potato soup and potato salad at Sidwell?

That's odd (cackle).....b/c Michelle Obama had been scheduled to traverse the campaign trail to save the day for Democrats.

Now she's staying put---says she's miffed about kids eating calorific potatoes and b/c her school lunch dictum to add kale to school diets went over like a lead balloon....so she's using that as the reason not to campaign for Democrats.

====================================================

The truth is despite the endless PR hyping her "fashionable" First Ladyship with an eye to her running for office ala Hillary....Mrs O is a huge political liability.

An unnamed Democrat strategist gently alluded to the possibility that nervous Democratic candidates just don’t want the first lady around.

=========================================

BTW---where's the (ahem) "front-running" 2016 Dem candidate?

Haven't seen Hillary using her (gag) popularity to help Dems on the increasingly unfriendly Dummycrat campaign trail.

Guess she figures they'll all be gone---so why bother (cackle)

Others have answered "high fructose corn syrup," just wanted to add that Hunt's ketchup advertises that it has no HFCS!

Thanks! It looks like Michelle prefers the Katsup with lots and lots of HFCS.

“I will only eat Heinz”

I used to think the same thing. The brand sold at ALDI is easily as good and much cheaper if you want an alternative.

Tnx for the suggestion. No particular reason to seek an alternative to Heinz but have been wanting to get to Aldi anyway. I like their ranch dressing and a couple other things better than bigger name brands.

I do also LOVE Heinz Chili Sauce. It is the best for horseradish shrimp dip. Sometimes I use it in place of ketchup but not on FF's.
