Accept no, repeat no passport holders from the affected countries. My God, we turned away the sick at Ellis Island. Should we do less now?

You can bet there is enough vaccine stashed somewhere for the “indispensable” people. The 99.9% don’t matter.

150 possible Ebola carriers arriving per day.
There needs to be a holding facility, i.e., hotel (FEMA camp) run by armed disease control staff, where these people can incubate for 22 days after arrival.
If they don’t show symptoms in 22 days (incubation period plus one) then they are free to continue their journey.
If they even get the sniffles in that period, then it’s off to infectious solitary isolation for a month.

"150 people a day arrive in the United States from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea"
This is sooo easy.
Ask every traveler if they have been to these countries in the last however many (21)days. Tell those who have that they will face a quarantine of 30 days upon arrival in the US, at a nominal expense. Or, they can wait until that same period is up and fly then.
I can't make it any simpler.

In the early 1980’s when AIDS came to the forefront, Haitians were prevented from entering the USA when they were thought to be carriers.

And if “only” one tenth of one percent have ebola, that is still 4.5 people per month entering who have ebola.

Not to worry. 90% have never even been exposed to Ebola...
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I had forgotten about that. Seems reasonable. Keep it contained. Not a hard concept to understand or buy into.
Thanks for reminding us.

That's 4500 reasons enough on days one through thirty, and tens of thousands of reasons by day 60.

Please repost this everywhere. There was no outcry then, it was just needed to be done. Haiti didn’t implode.
Many will remember when that happened and how civilized it was.

It would be interesting to know how long this situation concerning people coming from ebola-striken countries has existed. Ebola may not be as contageous as we are inclined to think. (But better to overreact than to be sorry.)
