Time To "Rethink" Tom Frieden As CDC Head

Public Health: The man whose one job is to safeguard America's health has failed, saying that we must change our responses to Ebola after a Dallas health care worker becomes infected despite the rules he championed.

After 26-year-old Dallas health care worker Nina Pham became the first person to contract Ebola on U.S. soil, Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), said during a press conference that (we) "have to rethink the way we address Ebola control."

Yes, we do. Pham's infection, just as Thomas E. Duncan's death in Dallas after a multistop trip from Liberia, wasn't supposed to happen with CDC's protocols. Frieden's repeated assurances that everything possible was being done have been demonstrably false.

Blaming Pham, who contracted the disease while caring for Duncan despite taking recommended protections and wearing the proper gear, Frieden said that "at some point there was a breach in protocol, and that breach in protocol resulted in this infection."

He later walked back his remarks. But if the protocols were adequate, why do we need to rethink them?

Pham isn't alone. Maria Teresa Romero Ramos, a Spanish nurse's aide, contracted the disease while caring for an Ebola patient in a Madrid hospital.

She got infected when her gloved hand inadvertently touched her face while removing her protective gear.

That’s some bad stuff.

Anybody watch CBS news tonight? The lady English reporter Lara Logan, described ebola as “highly contagious.” I have not heard that before, any comments?

Commissar Frieden is an Obama acolyte and is merely implementing the one world/no borders ideology so dear to his idol. Actually the entire Obama clown parade should resign. But none of them will. That is why elections really matter.

Dr. Freiden was selected for his post based on his willingness to advance the liberal political agenda. Public health and safety were not a consideration. Political philosophy does not stop infectious diseases.

It is really hard to get the straight scoop on ebola. We are led to believe that those who worked with Duncan were wearing full hazmat suits.

On our local Dallas station they showed what they actually wore:

A paper mask, one pair of latex gloves, a cotton gown and goggles.

Except for the goggles that is what I wore in the late 1970s when I worked in a hospital isolation ward.

That is the very minimal that is worn in isolation.

A paper mask, a cotton gown and a pair of latex gloves are meant to protect the patient from something a nurse might expose him to.

Medical staff working with ebola patients need to be wearing full hazmat gear.

Where are the full hazmat suits? We see them on camera going in and out of apartments. Are hazmats only for the camera?

I agree...The people at pressers like Frieden are trying to say our protocols are effective to prevent transmission of Ebola, they’ve been proved wrong.

There isn't one. But even if there was what would you expect he/she to do?

There is something about this guy that is just spooky.

To me he gives the impression that behind that podium he is rubbing his hands with glee in response to all the attention he is getting. And worse, I suspect that he is secretly hoping that this Ebola thingy just keeps growing and growing to enable him to stay in the spotlight.

Everybody assumes replacing Obama administration officials would change anything. It won’t. Everyone of them has been appointed based on ideology and willingness to do and say exactly what Obama tells them to say and to shield him from the consequences of those actions and expressions as if those came from themselves and not from Obama. Actual competence or expertise in their field was never a criteria for appointment.

They’re all basically just interchangeable cogs in the Obammunist machine, and when one wears out, that is, finally loses credibility when their Obama-protecting-shield takes too many blows, a replacement cog is appointed.

Firing Freiden accomplishes nothing, because Obama will simply appoint Frieden II.

did they have video confirming this?

this is why the whole notion of protocols will prevent epidemic is bullsh1t. nobody can do it right 100% of the time always. it only takes once wrong.

Sing it out, FRiend.
The bureaucrats run this country. The elected officials merely do stand up routines.
