RE: I am surprised there is no US city trying to get the games, but I believe that the IOC does not want to put the games in the US due to a combination of factors.

We had the games in Utah, why not re-use the site again?

There are a number of former Winter Olympic venues world wide. How about treat the IOC like any other sports enterprise and let them LEASE a venue for the games.

They want everything given to them, and they expect bribes and royal treatment at the Games.

It makes economic sense to reuse old facilities. Los Angeles did a pretty good job in 1984 and Lake Placid in 1980 the second time they hosted.

So did Innsbruck. Squaw Valley, CA has also hosted once, though California may not be up to the headaches of doing it again.

Winter Olympics, though, must be a worse bet than the Summer. You could always get a professional sports team to use an Olympic stadium in a big city after the games are over. Winter sport facilities are bound to be used less and bring in less money.
