Mike Huckabee Asks Pastors Across the US to Send Sermons, Bibles to Houston Mayor

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said pastors from across the United States should send "thousands and thousands" of Bibles and sermons to the Houston mayor who demanded pastors turn over their sermons to the government due to their objection to an LGBT discrimination city ordinance.

"I hope she gets thousands and thousands of sermons and Bibles," Huckabee said on his Fox News show Saturday, referring to Mayor Annise D. Parker.

"It ought to make you mad that the mayor thinks she can turn in her pastors. And so I got an idea," Huckabee explained. "If she wants a sermon, here is my suggestion. I would like to ask every pastor in America, not only the ones in Houston, to send her your sermons and go ahead. Obviously she could use a few. And everybody watching the show ought to send her a Bible."

Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, also criticized attempts to "silence the voices and prevent the votes of people." He suggested that Christians are being targeted because they refuse to bow down to "intolerant desperates ... and false gods of hate and religious bigotry."

The subpoenas were issued by Houston's city attorney in response to a lawsuit filed by opponents of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance that allow men and women who identify as transgender or opposite sex to use the facilities, such as restrooms, of their choice.

The subpoenaed sermons incident derived from months of debate over the controversial ordinance.

This is silly—just send thousands from their congregations to surround her building and demand her rapid departure.

Awesome awesome idea! If she reads the bible, she’ll have to outlaw that before any sermon!

How about praying for her?

I think it is a great idea. They can also pray for her, but sending the sermons (and Bibles) would be a visual response to her attempts to nix free speech by the churches/pastors.

Sending her a copy of the First Amendment would be far more effective.

And send them certified mail so that she has to sign for each and every one.

For once Huckabee has done something I kinda like.
Bury her in the Word of God up to her eyeballs.

just send thousands from their congregations to surround her building and demand her rapid departure.

They could surround the building and pray for her soul. And her departure.

Quietly, peacefully, but if it happened to clog the streets so be it.

It would be interesting to know how she disperses or disposes of the bibles that arrive.

I said it on another thread and I am saying it again: COWBOY UP! Houston Christians! Surround your church, surround you pastor's home and dare anyone to cross to deliver such a warrant! If you let them come for your Pastor they will soon be coming for you!! Time to make the Bundy ranch look like a square dance!

You know what that witch will do. She will have a giant bonfire and take great pleasure in burning up the Bibles.

Sorry Huckabee. I'm not contributing any fuel for the fire.

When President Obama’s former pastor Jeremiah Wright spewed virulent, racially charged, and hate-filled sermons over his Chicago congregation, many times with our Fearless Leader in the front pew, people shrugged and said, “That’s the Good Reverend’s First Amendment right.”

When radical Islamic imams across the country spew hate-filled sermons over their followers, in the process they often incite acts of violence against their fellow citizens. Just ask the family of the now headless 54-year-old grandmother whose killer was spawned from the Oklahoma City Islamic Center. Again, people shrug and say “That’s the Muslims exercising their First Amendment right.”

But when five Christian pastors in Houston adhere to their religious beliefs and try to build support to fight a new law that will let men who identify as women use the Ladies Room, the openly gay mayor of Houston has a hissy fit and subpoenas not only their sermons but also a wide array of private communications, both written and electronic.

Where is the outrage?

Though the City of Houston claims the subpoenas are an attempt to determine how the preachers instructed their congregants in their push to get the ordinance repealed, the mere act of challenging the sanctity of the pulpit poses an existential threat to the First Amendment.

Ted Cruz, the US Senator from Texas, said it well and succinctly, “Caesar has no jurisdiction over the pulpit.”

Amusingly, and in the wake of a nationwide outcry (finally!), on Friday, October 17th the subpoenas were amended to demand production of the pastors’ “speeches” instead of “sermons.”

Well what is a sermon if not a speech? It’s truly a distinction without a difference. Splitting hairs over semantics is nothing more than a smoke screen to obfuscate what is really going on: further diminishment of our personal freedoms, which have been fading away fast and furiously since the passage of the Patriot Act.

What people just don’t seem to get is that the beauty of the First Amendment is that no matter how obnoxious someone’s speech or actions are, be they Jeremiah Wright, an America-hating Islamic imam who basks in all the bounty this country has to offer, Neo-Nazis who march in 4th of July parades, or anti-military activists who burn Old Glory in protest, they still have a right to say and do their piece. Though any right thinking American hates what they say and do, they recognize that they still have a right to say and do it.

Contrary to what the “progressives” in this country would have us believe, the US Constitution does NOT guarantee any of us the right to not be offended. If something someone says or does offends you, too bad. Suck it up. If a TV show offends you, change the channel. If a book you are reading offends you, put it down and grab another one. And if a pastor’s sermon offends you, then don’t patronize his church.

Mayor Parker may be offended because some God-fearing Christians don’t agree with her lifestyle and don’t want it imposed on them and their children by a radical, gender-blind ordinance. But she doesn’t have the right to highjack the powerful and coercive power of government to intimidate and silence them in their righteous efforts to have it repealed.

I despise the homo agenda. Yet these pastors don’t seem to understand they willingly forfeited their constitutional rights for money. Churches apply for 501c3 status so they can ensure their congregation tax-exmpt donations. And they incorporate presumably to limit liability. When they incorporated as 501c3 corporation they became subservient to their master the state. A corporation is a creation of the state, not of God, and it is subservient to its creator. Then they further agree not to speak about particular political bills or candidates when they sign the 501c3 papers.

Don’t send them money, sermons, or congregants. Send them an education, and tell them to unincorporate and rescind their 501c3.
