---SNIP--- Whats the draw at this Bensalem store? Cigarettes, some priced at under $6 a pack. No more than a mile away in Philadelphia, the same cigarettes cost more than $8. We used to get between 300 and 400 cartons of cigarettes every other night. Now, were getting about 1,500 cartons. I would say sales have gone up from about 2,000 packs a day to between 4,000 and 4,500 packs daily, inventory manager Jim Watson said. That adds up at least $24,000 a day in sales, an increase of $12,000-plus since nearby Philadelphia increased its tax on a pack of cigarettes by $2 to help finance the citys schools.

Ahhhh! Those were the days. Ciggie butts were 90 cents a CARTON in the ships store. You could afford to get cancer then. Airlines gave them away with their in flight meals.
Cops will start hangin’ out in his parking lot, and writing down plate numbers, and following people!
$2 more bucks for smokes, $15 to park, and a 4% wage tax. What isn’t there to love about Philly?...
This is why liberals need federal control of everything.
I have been rolling my own for the last seven years. Not only are there less complex carcinogens because the tobacco is not flavored or treated I spend 18-20 dollars a month for both tobacco and papers.I am a heavy smoker and I have tried a store bought smoke now and then and I am repulsed ...what a difference and the state and fed gets much less
yet another LIBERAL tax on the poor....I thought democrats were the party protecting the poor.

Why is Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia smiling?
I do the same thing. Love my Top-O-Matic.
Not sure...because he’s stealing my money?
It’s ridiculous when the cost of a legal product is more than half in taxes.
Time to hijack one of those trucks.

Yes, and he's getting his drinking money.
“I would say sales have gone up from about 2,000 packs a day to between 4,000 and 4,500 packs daily...”
That’s a minimum of $2 x 2000 = $4000 in pure profit PER DAY for this place. Unimaginable. Next time someone tells you that government doesn’t distort the market, remember this little anecdote.
It’s harder than it would be to see if they were coming in from a different state, back in the old days when Maryland was the booze superstore for PA and DE, as almost every plate will be a PA plate. Maybe the new license plate readers will ease the load.
Agreed. I “stuff” my own for 80 cents a pack.
Can you recommend brand(s) for tobacco & filter(s), paper(s), machine, etc.?
