have recently had several spirited conversations with an old friend from high school over the Israel and Hamas conflict and the larger questions surrounding Israeli settlements, the Palestinian Intifadas and a dual state solution. My friend, a self-proclaimed Zionist and American Israel Public Affairs Committee member, often lamented that Israel was misunderstood and could not figure out why more African Americans were not vocal supporters of Jews (which he often conflated with the Israeli state).
He brought up typical talking points: "Dr. King was a Zionist and a supporter of Israel" and "Jews sacrificed during the Civil Rights Movement for the freedom of African Americans." Though there is some truth to the former statements, there is also history of economic exploitation (real or perceived) of black communities by some Jews, which has led to a contentious relationship.
Israel presents a complicated conundrum for African Americans, one that cannot be satisfied by looking at small isolated circumstances or particular historical figures. It is where the African American dream of nationalism and self-determination meets the nightmare of internal colonialism. It leaves progressive African Americans with nationalist leanings in a state of cognitive dissonance

Interesting to see a African American studies professor addressing this issue. His commparisons relate primarily to AAs who want a separate country, not those who wish to be a part of American society. IMO a small minority. As to Israel crafting a new message for the African American community in the US, I don't think that's necessary.

The answer to the headline’s question is simple. Most blacks do not like Jews, period. That has been my observation for the half century I have been alive. That would be my answer in a truthful, honest “conversation”. The better question to ask is “why”.
Because most of them who have been schooled by the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al. Many of whom at one time or another have been caught disparaging Jews with outright epithets, or just by insinuation.
The “why” is in reference to the underlying truth, not the headlines “why”.
They’ve been programmed to hate Jews and envy them for their success. Jews made it out of the ghettos while blacks chose the live of sloth, dependence and immediate satisfaction of emotional needs.

The brother has no input in to the naming of his bastards. Naming is the task of the sister and her sister
