Mainstream GOP sees tipping point vs. insurgent candidates (Tea Party Are Losers)
Politico ^ | 11/3/14 | ALEXANDER BURNS

For the Republican Party’s leadership, taking control of the U.S. Senate might not even be the sweetest part of a victory in 2014. With growing confidence as Election Day approaches, Republican leaders are preparing to argue that broad GOP gains in the House and Senate would represent a top-to-bottom validation of their party’s mainline wing. Having taken a newly heavy-handed approach to the primary season this year, the top strategists of the Republican coalition say capturing the majority would set a powerful precedent for similar actions in the future — not just in Senate and congressional races, but in the presidential primary season as well.

National Republicans managed this year to snuff out every bomb-throwing insurgent who tried to wrest a Senate nod away from one of their favored candidates. They spent millions against baggage-laden activists such as Matt Bevin, the Louisville investor who mounted a ham-fisted challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel, the conservative upstart who imperiled a safe seat by nearly ousting longtime Sen. Thad Cochran.

...If this fresh tack leads to victory, Republicans expect that aggressive posture (warring on Conservative Tea Party) will carry over into 2016.

To add, this is Politico. I’m catching a whif of a last minute Conservative vote suppression effort here.

Yep while I am sure its true, they would not be bringing it up now if it would not help their cause.

They just can’t help themselves. Without the conservative vote, they are nothing.

After wiping out democRATS tomorrow, we go to the GOPe and tell them, "guys you might be thinking that you are in charge but you're NOT." "We've had your number for some time and now you will end your leadership positions ....

And they'd laugh at you knowing you were all bluff. Hey -- you voted for them, remember?

A deal with the devil is always a losing proposition.

Ted Cruz is on our side, explicitly saying that's exactly what he's going to do. A year ago he almost single-handedly forced the GOP to shut down the government, backed off for political reasons when the collapse of HealthCare.gov emerged as a much more beneficial issue.

I'm willing to give the guy a chance. You?

Which weapon is that? Voting against the GOPe in the General.

How do we vote "against"? What will that entail voting for?

If only Ted Cruz really was the Republican party!

Listen, when a functional Democrat is held high as an example of the Republican Party brand, as happened in 2012, the fact that Cruz is on our side is small comfort! Something is very wrong with that picture. But hey -- I vote Republican when the Republican is limited government conservative. When the Republican is a functional Democrat, forget it, Cruz's promises notwithstanding.

Whether or not a third/second party is necessary, I don't know, but I do know that if the GOP nominates an anti-Cruz Republican for the presidential, all bets are off.

No, it only involves endorsing the candidate you've just voted for. That's all.

I agree Cochran should lose. If in were voting in that race, I'd skip the R and the D and either write something in or vote the closest limited government alternative available (not an environmentalist greenie kook alternative) to dilute the voter mandate of the liberal winner, Cochran or the Dem.

I can sure understand that! Cochran is symptomatic of why the Republican party is very near death throes.

Great then, stay home, vote for a write-in of your choice, go hunting, fishing or whatever else you plan to do. This will "teach the GOP that you're not for sale, that you'd rather they lose" and take all of the rest of us down with them for that's what is gonna happen.

Me, I'd rather have half a loaf than starve with nothing.

I don't like this either, just as Ronald Reagan didn't like it when he wound up losing to worse jerks than these (Geo. HW Bush, for one) not once but twice, then came roaring back in 1980 but he didn't pull up his panties and stomp out of the party because they stabbed him in the back. Reagan did what was necessary to patch things together for the sake of the whole to win half a loaf, then won the whole ball of wax not only in 1980 but 1984 the biggest landslide ever.

Whatever the case, I don't want to leave the Senate in the hands of another evil guy, Harry Reid, knowing that Obama is prepared to take the country farther into Third World status but you all do what works for you.

Me, I'd rather have half a loaf than starve with nothing.

Make sure you tell yourself that when you get sold down the river and the very people you supported enable Obama and Reid's agenda to go forward with their blessing, and without any consequences for violating the Constitution.

McConnell tells ABC News today that Republicans will not make investigating the Obama administration's lawlessness a priority if the GOP wins control of the Senate.

Doesn't read like half a loaf of anything is in the offing from the GOP - rather it appears you will be told to shut up and eat the Sh*t sandwich they intend on serving up.

I have no intention of staying home. In my district I have someone other than one of the uni-party candidates to vote for. You guys keep making the same mistake, no matter which side of the uni-party you pro-establishment guys support, and yes you are pro-establishment. You all presume that we all are members of one of your two progressive parties, we have to be, right? Wrong! I am not a republiCrat or a democRat, so I`ll vote as I please based on my criteria and not yours. ‘I didn`t leave your republiCrat party, it left me.’ Sound familiar?
