(CNSNews.com) - Secretary of Education Arne Duncan says government funded universal preschool is a social movement and compared it to civil rights and gay marriage during a speech in Los Angeles last month.
At the end of the day for me this is really a social movement, Duncan said when discussing federally subsidized preschool at the LA Universal Preschool (LAUP) forum on Oct. 21.
If you look at social movements, we all celebrate what happened in the 1960s. The civil rights movement was extraordinarily powerful, life transforming, earth shattering. But the question I have is, why didnt the civil rights movement happen in the 50s or the 40s or 30s or 20s? Duncan said.
If you look at the movement now around gay marriage and marriage equality and gay rights that California is absolutely helping to lead. Thats fantastic its happening now, but why didnt that happen two or three or four or five decades ago?
Think how very different so many of our American citizens how different their lives would have been if they would have had the opportunity to live outside the shadows and to marry who they loved.
Duncan continued, So for me, the question- I know that access, universal access to high quality early learning is coming, it is the right thing, its a triumph of common sense but I dont want to be talking about the victory 40 years from now.

The libs figure the sooner they can get their hands on them, the better. Indoctrination starts young.
Homeschool ping.
“Social Movement” = taking a crap in public
Brainwashing must start as early as possible
He’s absolutely right. Taking little kids away from their parents and handing them over to be indoctrinated in government nurseries is 100% like “gay marriage.” Wicked and deadly harmful to the most innocent human beings.
Growing up in the 50s, I actually heard grownups speaking of the wrongs of communism, and among those wrongs was that children's careers were decided for them by the age of 6, and they had no choice in the matter of how they would be educated. Even as small children, we Americans knew that this was an example of the lack of freedom in the Soviet system. Why anyone would want that here is absolutely crazy.
Democrats want to start indoctrinating our children even sooner; obviously after Tuesday’s election results, they realize FORCING parents to put their kids in public schools at the age of five just isn’t cutting it!
The only reason they want “govt preschool” IS TO GET TO OUR CHILDREN SOONER.
Because of homeschooling, some children are showing up at high schools or community colleges without the usual bias toward Christians, repubs, etc.
And .. we can’t have that, can we ..??
Obamas worshipers love that communist goal, brainwashing our little ones.
These are the words of my far left sister-in-law that she posted on facebook yesterday. She is in her late 40s, not a kid.
Im thinking perhaps I need to move to Denmark? I cant handle being American anymore... Anyone up for a great safety net and riding bikes everywhere?
Communal living with lots of help with kids and households sounds great, so does riding everywhere and having a great safety net. Our country is fuxxxx* right now and Im tired of fighting so hard for what is good and right. Lets Go!!!
*censored by me
Liberals still pushing cradle to grave government control.
I don’t know how you “indoctrinate” 4 year olds. It just looks like free daycare to me.
There is no such animal as “free” daycare. It is just more robbing from the productive and giving to the baby factories.
Have as many kids as you want but don’t expect me to pay for their keep.
You have to be joking.
You teach the stories. Reading. You couch it all in a political agenda.
The first words I ever really read on my own I still remember, decades and decades later. “Mary was a lovely girl. She lived long ago.”
I was not yet 2 years old. I was in my parents’ bed, reading to my mother, who was sick.
Get them young, and you’ve got them for life. 0bama wants the children for life.
