Paul Ryan Predicts Enough GOP Support For 'Constructive Immigration Reform'
Breitbart ^ | 11/6/14 | Tony Lee

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) predicts that there will be enough support for immigration reform in a GOP-led Congress.

According to the Associated Press, "Ryan said that as long as Obama doesn't try an executive order in November or December and works with Congress," immigration legislation can be enacted.

USA needs to learn from Singapore. There are 3.5 million citizens and 2 million foreign workers in Singapore. Foreign workers get 2 year work visa’s, and they are very happy to obey laws because of the job benefits. They do not receive Singapore citizenship based on work visa.

Result is a very prosperous country of Singapore where every 6th citizen is a millionaire.

Closing the 2000 mile southern border airtight will require way too much money which the US treasury does not have. We will have to borrow it from China.

Besides it leaves out 40% of illegals who arrive legally on air flights and just do not return.

My solution will cost nothing! My immigration reform is very simple...pass a bill which hands out mandated minimum prison sentence of 5+ years to CEO’s whose outfit hires illegals.

Removing the magnet for illegals is far more cost effective than building a 2000 mile long 50 foot high fence. They will simply dig tunnels under it.

If my proposal is enacted into law, 90% of illegals will self deport, without tax payers picking up their return flight cost.

The remaining 10% will be 10 times easier to deal with.

simply to enforce the immigration laws we now have.

When the country elected a socialist community organizer from south side of Chicago, why would anyone in their right minds expect any laws to be enforced? I guess they do not understand what a community organizer does.

It is a wet dream that we can secure a 2000 mile long southern border air tight. Even a 100 foot high and 20 foor wide wall will not do it. Have you heard of tunnels?

Besides, 40% of illegals arrive legally through US airports.

Please read post #182 for the most effective, and least cost solution to invasion of illegals.

A 100 foot high fence 2000 miles long? Does China treasury have enough money for that which we can borrow?

Please read post #182 for the only effective immigration reform.

I don’t know what the length and height of a fence should be but where a fence does exist it works. Also about who will pay for it. If the Feds would remove the prohibitions to building any fence it may have a lot of private funding by the property owners not federal funding.

We are currently spending a lot of federal and state money guarding and defending a border that is not even well marked in places.

Punishing the employers would help as would punishing the trespassers. Not just only deporting them.

A fence is impractical solution to any country with thousands of miles of border. A better solution is to remove the magnet which attracts illegals. The magnet is jobs and welfare. Russia has a longer border but no one dares enter illegally. Very harsh punishment!

Even a small country like Israel can not build airtight fence. There are hundreds of tunnels under the fence.

And then there are 5 million illegals who entered legally as tourists, students, in transit passengers, etc. who never left. Fence would do absolutely nothing for those 5 million.

If we had a few Billion surplus sitting in the US Treasury, I would absolutely have nothing against a 2000 mile fence on the southern border. Instead we have annual deficits of Half a Trillion every year.

Not if you close a hundred agencies and fire several thousand bureaucRATs. I was thinking more like a military base, 2000 miles long and 100 feet wide.

it leaves out 40% of illegals who arrive legally on air flights and just do not return.

Chip em and ship em (when their visa expires) Put them across that same border no matter where they came from.

hires illegals.

That solution just addresses the ones that are doing the jobs Americans can't get.

I like the bounty option for drug dealers, welfare scammers and other criminals. They could break rocks for use in highway construction before being deported.

We do not have the money to maintain current military bases we have now. Bases are being closed every year. A 2000 mile 100 feet wide NEW military base is a fairy tale.

If we get a republican president and congress in 2016, a bill to penalize employers hiring illegals is not impossible. It will cost next to nothing to pass and very little to implement. A central database of legal citizens and residents is all that is needed.

Chip em and ship em (when their visa expires) Put them across that same border no matter where they came from.

No one knows where the 11+ Million live or where they work. We can't even find 10 most wanted on FBI list. And you want 11 million to be found? You want bounty hunters searching for 11 million people? How will they determine who is legal or illegal? Will the bounty hunters use brute force on people to show them documents?

Singapore has some very draconian laws as they apply to guest workers, something that would never fly here. And Singapore has labor shortages. That is not the case here. Singapore is a very regimented, regulated society. My daughter was born there when we were posted to Jakarta.

From 1 September 2012 only foreign workers with earnings of at least S$4,000 ($3,150) per month can sponsor their spouses and children for their stay in Singapore and some of them are also not allowed to bring their parents and in-laws on long-term visit passes.

The influx of immigrants and foreign workers to Singapore has resulted in strong sentiment by the locals against both the foreigners and the government, and was a major issue in both the 2011 general and presidential elections. Singaporeans have attributed to the government's open-door immigration policy the country's overcrowding and falling reliability of its public transportation system, increasing property prices for housing, suppressed wage level, increased competition for jobs and education, increasing income inequality and other social problems. These issues came under close scrutiny by foreign media in the aftermath of the 2013 Little India riot.

New salary rules were adopted in 2013:

Firms looking to hire foreigners must now pay their full-time local workers at least $1,000 a month.

With effect from 2014, the Employment Act will cover non-manual workers earning up to $2,500, making them eligible for over-time pay. 150,000 workers are expected to benefit from this change. Previously, only non-workmen earning up to $2,000 qualified.

Tan said that to help employers manage their costs, the amount of over-time payable will be capped at a salary level of $2,250, meaning that workers earning between $2,250 to $2,500 would get the same over-time rate of $17.70 per hour.

I would also add that Singapore has the lowest fertility rate in the world—.8 compared to our 2.01.

Sheesh. This really IS an exclusive club where you just don’t accept people who haven’t been around forever.

Thank you and I will freep Paul Ryan and I will tell him that I hope he can come up with a plan that will prevent the president from claiming Republicans won't compromise or negotiate or even consider any plan he puts forward.

I will also tell him that even tho emotions and opinions run amok immediately following elections I recognize, expect and support his efforts to inform all sane, intelligent and just citizens about the facts regarding immigration.

I hope all Freepers will see the benefits of reviewing and tweaking or modifying existing procedures after reading the facts and available data pertinint to the issue.

No...40 million.

How will they determine who is legal or illegal?

Well, if they can't speak English for starters.

Will the bounty hunters use brute force on people to show them documents?

They could start by asking them politely. They could get certain illegal aliens to rat out other illegal aliens.

In fact, Hispanic Americans might well be some of the best bounty hunters.

Business needs unlimited immigration to keep wages down. They are willing to pay enough taxes to support the unearned wages that are given to the poor.

You’re welcome.

Nothing you suggested addresses non-workers. Probably the large majority of illegals.

Non-workers....simply follow the laws which prohibit welfare to illegals. Except for life threatening humanitarian healthcare, illegals should not receive food stamps, driver’s licenses, general welfare benefits, etc.
This will be the difficult part because many bleeding heart types will give sanctuary to illegals. So it will require passing laws which make it illegal to give aid and comfort to illegals.

I will do some research on this, but I have to believe most illegals are here for jobs. I see hard working non-English speaking workers all over the place, in landscaping work, in restaurants, in construction. They depress wages of American citizens.
