Why GOP won: Shifting white votes hurt Democrats

WASHINGTON — White voters of all ages were less likely to back Democrats this year than in elections past, helping Republicans nationwide but most acutely in the South — and overpowering Democratic efforts to turn out their core supporters among blacks and Hispanics.

In a nation growing ever more diverse, political forecasters repeatedly warn Republicans they must improve their appeal among minorities in order to remain competitive in the long term.

The media and Dems failed to realize the cause and effect. The more they demagogue and pander to the minority electorate, screaming racism at every turn, they lose white voters. So while GOP may lose blacks and Hispanics who rely on govt, they gain former white Dems and Indies.

Also, I find it amazing that Hagan, Nunn, Landrieu, etc received so little white support - around 30%. Yet you never see them on the stump with only 3 whites in a group of 10.

Obama has destroyed the Democrat party.

They can’t understand why calling white people racists for 6 years has any affect on their voting I guess.

You need to check your demos. White women vote Republican. Especially married whites. Romney won them big. Its when you bring in black women to the sample that women (overall) support Dem.

“I have bad news for them, though. They lost young white voters, too. The 18-29 demographic went 54-43 Republican.”

The only white guys voting Democrat are gays, government workers, guys in unions and some wussified urbanites. Outside of large cities just about all white guys are not voting Democrat and hopefully are voting Republican.

The Dems are the party of
blacks
illegal immigrants
most legal immigrants
minorities
gays
lesbians
Hispanics
unmarried women
(generalizing of course)
normal white guys are not prime Democrat voter demographics that Dems will bribe (via welfare and govt spending} and cultivate like the ones above

This is interesting stuff, and when you do the math, you get very interesting results - I’ve been doing it on a spreadsheet. But for starters, if a Republican gets 45% of the Hispanic vote, then Hispanics virtually don’t exist for Democrats, as 90% of their votes have canceled each other. In Texas, if there were no Hispanics, and if whites vote 75/25 Republican and blacks vote 88/12 Democrat, the best a Republican can do is 62%. That represents an upper limit and that number was nearly achieved in Texas.

So for starters. Per CNN exit polling, Hispanics were 17% of the electorate. If you double that number to 34%, but Reps still hold 40% of their votes, we still win by 14 points (57/43). In fact, unless you can get Hispanics to go 80/20 Dem, and with their vote count doubled (at 34%), you won’t reach 50/50. That’s a VERY TALL order for the Democrats and will not happen unless the Republicans do something really stupid (like pass Amnesty or turn really nasty in some other way).

The Dems have the same spreadsheet capability and exit polling...they have to know it’s hopeless here, barring a Republican meltdown. They simply went too far, by causing whites to vote as a block. The challenge now is for whites to block vote outside of the South, once they do that, it’s over for the Dems, at least for a generation.

Looking at the rest of what you posted - yea we’re in synch. The HARD PART is to convince the Republicans to trust spreadsheets with hard data, rather than their highly paid ‘advisers’ (most of them gay, by the way). If we can do that...we’re looked at a country that is flipped over from what we were promised, and in a GOOD WAY!

“We’re like the Blacks and Hispanics are for the Democrats in that Republicans take us for granted.”

Not true. It’s the GOPe leadership that despises the Tea Party folks. In my state, most republicans actively seek out conservatives in their races. I can send you a bundle of mailings and campaign fliers to prove it.

We need to stop making general statements about Republicans. The states are generating some very conservative office holders and sending them to congress.

The Democrats can no longer win with a coalition of women and minorities.

And yet, if they do the slightest thing to help white men or even dare to deviate slightly from the "All white men are racist/sexist/homophobic/feudal patriarchs!" party line, professional activists from said coalition are going to come down on them like a ton of bricks.

That's the problem with wholesale adoption of identity politics - great over the short term, but once the targeted group's well of guilt runs dry the backlash can be horrific.

I guess liberals don’t considered Tom Scott, Mia Love, Bill Hurd, Mary Sanchez and Gov. Sandoval as minority since they are REPUBLICANS.

Spit in their faces enough and even “guilty of being White Democrats” may get a bit tired of being supportive.

The truth of the matter is the Democratic Party is perceived to be a party uninterested in white men and could care less about them.

They don't care much about white women, either, but white women haven't figured that out yet, at least not en masse. Some have caught on, but many can still be persuaded totheir birthright for 30 pieces of contraceptive pills per month.

Again, turnout in 2012 was skewed by the fact that millions of conservatives, and I assume that means mostly white men and women, stayed home during that election due to the candidate presented, and I thought that was universally accepted as a fact, but I may be mistaken.

Romney received 1 million more votes than McCain did in 2008. Obama received 3 million less votes than he did in 2008, but still won by 5 million votes. So whose voters really stayed home?

In the 2012 election, whites made up 72% of the electorate and in 2014 75%. Mid term voters are whiter and older than during Presidential elections.

White women vote Rep in a similar percentages as white men. According to the 2014 exit polls white men voted 64% to 33% for Reps and white women 56% to 42%.

A few comments:

Married white women vote similarly to white men, or at least they aren’t affected by the birth control/Sandra Fluke propaganda.

Unmarried women are still in the Dem pocket, even if they are white.

And, the 2014 exit polls you quoted are consistent with this, because even among white women, there is less support for the GOP than there is from white men. This is, or course, consistent with the married/unmarried divide noted above.

Finally, among this group, 2014 is so different from preceding years, that while it is hopeful, it may be premature to count on it going forward.

Whites have every reason to vote supermajority Republican, not just in the South but everywhere.

Unmarried women are still in the Dem pocket, even if they are white.

How much can they be in the Dem pocket when white women voted 56% to 42% for the Reps? There is no comparison to minority women. Do you have a source for how white, single women voted? I have searched and can't see to find it. It is one figure the MSM and the Dems would like to keep quiet so they can continue to push the war on women meme. Race and ethnicity are more important indicators as to how women vote.

Nice graphs and stats.

Here’s a quote from an article I found: “More than one-in-five voters this cycle – 21 percent of the electorate — was an unmarried woman, and a majority — 60 to 38 percent – voted for Democrats. “

Link: http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/where-were-all-dems-heres-who-turned-vote-n241696

Since maybe 65 to 70% of those single women are white, white single women almost certainly were a majority Dem vote. Perhaps less than 2008 thru 2012, but still....

That’s why we’re not done with the War on Women—it still works to some degree.

Here is a wiki page on that Star Trek episode. Also note that the gorgan (the friendly angel) was played by the late famed San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli (star trek trivia).
