Play the game - use the right buzz words - say you want assurances that your daughter wont be descriminated against or bullied by the teacher for having a different belief. Be sure the principal is on the hook if any tests or papers are graded unfairly- let him/her know you will follow up and if you get any sort of negative response from either the principal or teacher, ask who is next in line - School Board?

You need to know what your child is taking. You said in post 21 it may be World Issues. What is it? World History or World Issues? If you go in half-cocked you will loose all credibility. Does the teacher allow other opinions/discussion or does he or she just lecture as if it is gospel?
I teach and we get into discussions at times that are not germane to the specific topic we are talking about. That is part and parcel of the learning process.
My grandchildren are at two very good Catholic schools. At times they come home with something that happened in class and it takes time to tease out of them what really happened.
Be sure of your facts and then proceed.

Numbers to tease out:

“The state doesn’t need to own the means of production, only control the means. With Obamacare regulating the healthcare industry, the EPA and DOE controlling the means of energy production, Obama has a pretty good start.

His policies have increased the true unemployed; 5.8% is a bogus number. Considering the 6% decrease in labor participation (that by itself corresponds to 10% unemployment) and the approximate doubling of those on permanent disability (another 3%), we have a true unemployment rate of nearly 20%, and I’m not even counting the number of people whose employment has been reduced to part time due to Obamacare.

With all Obama’s talk of fixing income inequality and his creation of an increasing low income class, he clearly has socialist intentions. Hitler was a nationalist socialist, but Obama is an internationalist socialist. If he’s not a communist, he doesn’t have far to go to be one.”

Yep. You're right. That's what happens when the attempt i made to construct a sentence with about a dozen interruptions. IF the teacher cannot understand that the economy has not improved, you are likely dealing with someone who is incapable of understanding Western Civilization.

By their stats, it shows modest 'improvement'. Of course, that is portrayed by cropping the statistical picture to remove the people who are not even looking for work, those who fell off the unemployment rolls and who no longer count as "unemployed", etc.

It is like touting the reduction in business expense when the last factory closes...

Tell teach to lay off current events — and stick to history.

Suggest studying the Greek city states.

The Church teaching on abortion is ample reason no Catholic should endorse obamacare or those who wanted it forced upon America.

But many are Catholic or Christian only when convenient.

“Sounds like it might be okay to tape”

I had this come up in a college class. I recorded many lectures so I could refer to them later. One semester I was enrolled in a class with this old hag who obviously was a grouch. I was taping as I usually did. About the third class session, she noticed it, and almost screamed out, “Did you ask my permission to tape?” I turned off my recorder and when the class let out promptly enrolled in another class that would be required. The old bat acted like a Marine D.I. from day one. Did fine in the other class.

Unfortunately, the Catholic Church has been making some grave choices regarding illegals and I’m not so sure their position on obamacare is very different.

Buy your daughter a video pen - most record an hour’s worth of video.

Tell your daughter to smile politely and do the work as best she can. On the last day of school after finals are done give your daughter a copy of “The Law” by Bastiat as an end of the year present to her teacher with a note stating “learn some history yourself.”

My daughter’s doing fine in her school, not in the least because her parents are willing to go face down the administration when the teachers start getting out of control.

My older two went through public school, and we fought some serious battles there, which is why the youngest will never see the inside of public school. I can afford not to deal with those ?#$^*S’s now.

The Catholic Church is one of the very few organizations that has been willing to put their ethics and mney into fighting Obamacare (Hobby Lobby being another, God Bless them). Of all the options available to me here in Maryland, Catholic schools are by far the best chance I have of educating and training my child with quality education and strong morals.

Vignette from one of the older two:
“Dad,, I think I’m in trouble again”

“What now?”

“When Ms (insert public 8th grade teacher here) told the class that Stonewall Jackson got his nickname at the battle of Frederick, when his men hid behind the stone wall, I couldn’t take it any more”

Dad (me): “What did you do?”

Kid: “I stood up, told her she was wrong, that 1) She was probably talking about FredericksBURG, not Frederick, 2) Longstreet’s men held the stone wall at the north end, not Jackson’s, and 3) Jackson got the nickname more than a year earlier at First Manassas when General Bernard Bee of South Carolina, called to his soldiers “There stands Jackson like a stone wall! Rally behind the Virginians!”

Teacher: “How do you know that?

Kid: “Because my dad and I have walked all three battlefields!”

Dad (me): “Outstanding! Screw her, right is right!”

That kid, having conducted two combat tours in Iraq, is now working on his Masters degree at University of Nebraska and that lame teacher is........not.

Couldn’t wait any longer I just sent an email

Should hear back in the next day or so. I asked what the school policy was for discussing politics in the classroom. Told the principal what was going on from our point of view.

Thanks again for all the input. Hopefully things will improve.

Thanks Smokin’ Joe. By reading your whole post I was fairly sure what you meant.

I agree with your take on teachers like this.

I ran a study of my own based on the average growth rate from around 1940 to 2000. I developed ten full cycles consisting of a four year presidential term in office.

It’s hard to believe, but in ten such cycles over 40 years, the average work force growth was around 9.75%. (That’s every four years) During Bush’s eight years, the employment should have gone up by roughly 19.0%.

In his first four years, he had a negative figure 1.7% or so. His anemic second four years he had a 0.9% growth in jobs, leaving his two terms with a grown rate of only 0.8%. Contrast that with the average 19% for two terms.

Then Obama came along and it didn’t do any better. This is the first fourteen years in the recent history of the United States where growth just died.

By traditional standards, we should have at least 22.5% more people employed right now.

Not only this, but those who do have jobs have downward salary pressure on them. I estimate another 25% of our work force is taking in half or far less than they used to for their time.

I think you understand, but I believe the jobs we have today represent about 76-78% of our potential work force. Out of those 25% or so are making far less. That means half our work-force has been devistated by events of the last six to seven years.

None the less we have open borders, outsourceing, and insourcing cheap labor.

This is open brutal warfare on the middle-class of America.

It is open warfare on the Middle Class, and by raising tax rates, that same middle class will be denied earning its way through, held back and squashed. The Marxist model allows only for elites and proletarians, the Middle Class (the Bourgeoisie) is anathema to the model.

The other factor involved in the stagnation of the past four terms is the conversion of our consumer economy from one which consumed our goods to one which consumes goods from elsewhere.

While foreign products have always accounted for part of the goods offered, there was a range of products from cheap foreign made to well-made American manufactured products. Those higher end to midrange American Made consumer goods have pretty much vanished and the factories moved offshore.

A real wake-up call was opening a popular outfitter's catalogue and finding only a few token products were produced in the American Northeast: virtually every garment was imported. I no longer do business with them, though their products were a favorite in the 70s and 80s.

We can't offshore jobs like we did in the Clinton Administrations, and need to return the value-added aspect to American manufacturing.

Nor can we afford to import all the raw materials, either.

Needless to say, the driving force behind much of this industrial denouement has been Environmental regulation, much of it promulgated instead of legislated--an unconstitutional situation at best.

ma’am, this is my opinion. I can assume that if your child is now in Catholic school that she will also be going to college in the future.
My solution is this: First you must sit her down and inform her that this will not be her first encounter with a lefty liberal teacher. You have to explain to her that many classes are very subjective. The fact is that if you/her create a scene that her subjective answers will always be graded with a bias against her, trust me it happened to me.
Here’s the answer for you. Having explained the above, you must instruct her, even though it goes against your ideas, thoughts and maybe even your morals.
The way to get an “A” in any subjective class is to always gear your writing and/or answers to the reader (teacher). If she writes a paper from an extremely leftist lefty position the teacher always loves it and gladly give “A”s every time.

Remember, this will not be the last time she runs into a lefty teacher.

I once had an English 2 class in college and we had to write a 25 page term paper as the class final. I don’t quite remember the book but it was Shakespeare and it had a character named “Caliban”. Since “Caliban” was described as dark skinned, my entire paper was written that Shakespeare was a racist and listed every encounter with him was racist demeaning and hateful. Even though I didn’t believe a single thing I wrote in the paper, she loved it and asked permission to enter it into a writing contest.

You must always write your papers geared to the readers view to keep them reading and interested. With libs I always found in college that was easy.

Also, as far as class participation he/she must also address her answers in public to the people receiving it.

They’ll love ya even though you know your answers are complete BS.

I agree with your comment wholeheartedly. People have been sleepwalking into this situation not asking questions at all. As a nation we have and still are committing suicide.

It is alright for your daughter to learn that some people abuse authority via lying, manipulating, stealing, etc. It will give her a bs detector.

I only went to battle when my sons got a bad grade for disagreeing with the commie posing as a teacher. I insisted they be permitted to have their own opinion as long as they backed it up with proper organization, rationale and data.

One of my sons loved history from early childhood. He read lots of history books all through grade school and junior high. He said he wanted to be a history professor. Then he got to high school and met the leftist history revisionist dum dums. He decided he’d best go into science. He got his Ph.D. this year.
