Alaska Democratic Senator Mark Begich is counting on votes that are not yet counted in the Last Frontier’s Senate race. One hundred percent of the precincts are in and Begich’s GOP challenger Dan Sullivan is currently in the lead by 8,000 votes. But, the incumbent Democrat is insisting that more rural votes could change the outcome.
ABC News has the specifics:
According to Gail Fenumiai, the director of the Alaska Division of Elections, there are 23,271 early and absentee ballots deemed eligible for counting. These are already received and reviewed as eligible. They sent out another 12,541 absentee ballots and if postmarked by November 4th, ballots can arrive legally 15 days after the election and still be properly counted. Of course, they have no idea how many of those will be returned.
Because of these yet-to-be-tallied votes, Begich's campaign manager Susanne Fleek-Green said her boss is in it for the long haul:
She said Begich would make a statement on the race only after “counts arrive from the seventy outstanding villages and when the number of outstanding absentee and questioned ballots is clear.”
Sullivan’s campaign, however, is claiming that Begich is “clinging to votes that don’t exist.” Several news outlets appear to agree with them. The Alaska Dispatch News, for instance, says Begich faces “daunting math” to overcome the deficit and the Alaska Public Radio Network asserted the incumbent’s decision to stay in the race is based on an “implausible hypothetical resurgence.”
Nevertheless, Begich doesn’t seem to be backing down. This race may not be called for weeks.
I've seen more hocus pocus here in Alaska than back in Pennsylvania where I grew up. Less people, it's common to hear all the dirt from all over the state from friends. It's also quite easy for just about anybody to jump up on a soap box and run for anything; and if your game is good; you stand a good chance of getting elected. Donny Young's been doing it for many years. The Whites like him, the Indians like him; he started out an old bush guy but he sure got game and has made fools outta many competitors. Most importantly, I don't ever have to call his office or write letters or complain; like Begich or Murkowski. You know what ya got with Don Young and it's good. Palin and Young never much got along, but I like them both. Palin has always been for real in my mind. Don Young will be in office until he decides he don't want to be there or sets one of his half breed daughters for the office; and everybody will vote for her too. He keeps saying we need a Native Repub Representative, then all kinds of Indians will vote Repub too. Seriously though, most Indians will vote for Donny Young, but not many other Republicans. Reason is Don Young is super accessible to the rural folks and is forever threatening to go after the feds, putting on a great show too. The Indians trust Don Young to help them out when they need it, the Whites like him cause he hates the feds and UN and is big hunter.
You said folks were bought off. This is BS. When did this occur, where did occur and who did this?

All kinds of Alaskans get absentee ballots sent to them then never fill them out, throw away and vote on election day. Thats why many are still out; they will never be sen back in.
I wonder if the Democrats are scouring the land for those ballots to fill out and cheat
Native Alaskans and Eskimos don’t vote as a bloc from what I’ve read. I can see Begich’s point given his last election (trailing by 3,000 and finishing 4,000 ahead), but don’t see this turning around for because A) that was 2008, a heady time for Democrats, while this 2014, the equivalent of Bush’s 2006; and B) statistically it just doesn’t make sense that he would make up an even wider margin now than he did then given (A).
I thought when the polls closed,the election was over. Of course,i realize that there are those who would like to extend it endlessly until they got the desired results,but didn’t think that was exactly legal.

I don’t think so, but they had a bunch filled out 2 weeks before election. I have 2 absentee ballots myself, but they had to be post marked by Nov 4th. Maybe they have a few dem postmasters working overtime.
Nick Begich is OK, actually an interesting guy; forward thinker like Wally Hickel. He isn’t a left winger for sure. The Repubs would be well served to check Nick out; Alaska likes family dynasties, no joke.
They sure did this season. In our village, even a few of the Repub Vets voted for Begich; those guys have never voted for dems in the past. Like I said, the Natives are mostly Dem, but they don’t get too excited about voting anyway. This year most voted, the dem secret agents in their Begich election offices in most villages made sure.
Since when did Democrats start winning in Alaska or are they getting an influx of northeastern liberal excrement moving up to their state?
It's quite evident if you look at the various races.
Begich won becaue of fraud originally - Republican Ted Stevens was under indictment for something or other - that destroyed his reputation and Begich was elected over him - but the department of Justice under Holder of all people found that the prosecutors in the Stevens case had acted illegally, the case was invalidated and Stevens exonerated - fraud is the only way Begich knows how to win.....
They’ve got some of those stand-by boxes of absentee (double/dead) ballets to mail in - they just haven’t yet fingered out how many they need to ‘win’ - (there’s using Common core math - it’s gonna take a while)
I wouldn't put it past the Dems to find any way to have thrown away absentee ballots to be "sent in" when it comes to counting votes.
I worked at the post office in Anchorage both as letter carrier and canceling machine repairman.
During election time there is a hand canceler that didn’t have it postmark changed. Maintainer’s were told it was for a special project.
Groups of mail in ballots were sent to vacant buildings. I had a burnt out building on my route (210 N Hoyt, I think anyway it was in that area ) that got stacks mailing ballots. Were these sent back to the state elections office ? The Throwback Clerk gave them to the Union rep.

One year during the Election I found the wrong date on the canceling machine. The floor supervisor was not concerned when I told him. I found out later that the maintenance Mach of the day was told to do this. An upside down 6 becames a 9. and ballots are late. These ballots were part of a court case. The argument was that the state division of elections stamped the incorrect receipt date. Oh on that year the ballots had to be post marked by the 7th.
IMO many elections in Alaska were won at the post office.
Many absentee ballots have strange names on them. As a letter carrier I knew most everyone on my route. Why are there absentee ballots with names of people I had not heard of.
Many native names can be odd and can be spelt in many different ways.
