Mitch McConnell Says, No Government Shutdown Even If Obama Acts On Immigration

Sen. Mitch McConnell made a clear statement Thursday: There will be no government shutdown. The Kentucky Republican, who will take over as majority leader in January, renewed his vow not to shut down the federal government as conservatives in his party called for fighting the president’s immigration proposals through spending legislation.

Some Republicans in Congress are arguing that if President Barack Obama moves forward with his promise to sign executive orders addressing immigration, the GOP should attach language to spending bills that would undo the actions. Congress must pass a spending bill by Dec. 11 to prevent another government shutdown.

“We will not be shutting the government down or threatening to default on the federal debt,” McConnell said Thursday at a press conference when asked about Republican calls for attaching extra provisions to the spending bill.

What will Republicans in Congress do if Obama moves forward? “We’ll let you know,” McConnell replied.

I’m wishing and hoping against all reasonable and sane expectation, I know, but I’m really really hoping this is a head fake on McConnells’ part.

Why do Republicans politically disarm themselves in advance?

Because RINO ain't just an acronym in Egypt, that's why.

Someone remind me again why it was so imperative to support the Republicans on NOV 4.

That's easy! Because, well, R! You NEVER vote for ANYONE that doesn't have an R next to their name. Unless, of course, you hate America. Hullo!!!

I don’t think they are that dumb, they just agree with Obama. Juan Williams might be right after all—there was no wave. The Republicans will implement Obama’s policies instead of the democrats.

There are no RINOs. There are only liberal Republicans. Lots of them. Most of them.

And to think, we *could* have retired McConnell and *still* took over the Senate. Darn it, Kentucky, why didn't you write in "Bevin" as a protest vote like I asked? We'd be *so* much better off.

So, all Obama has to do is threaten a shutdown and Mitchie will cave on anything. With leaders with this...

I think you can prove your point on how many are either pro-choice or pro-life. I really don’t know at this point. That is the litmus test in my opinion.

What matters is the house. Boehner has been silent. While most everyone thinks he will be reelected speaker, along with the other Republican leadership, with the only fights over the NRCC chairmanship, and the various committee chairs.

The senate cannot unilaterally pass any spending bill or continuing resolution. So if the house rank and file are obstinate, they can block everything until the next congress.

He didn’t get voted back in to cave as this. It’s not the voters’, (who voted) fault because they said stop business as usual. It’s Boehner and McConnell brought to you by Karl Rowe and the same alike. They are suppressing our voices when they don’t honor the people. Most everyone knew they are afraid-dy cats but hoped that they seen Obama was going too far and to shut him down. This has got to turn around before the amnesty is granted.

You’d think they would show, from both parties; loyalties to the American worker. I am convinced they live-in a glass bubble. I have relatives who work for both chambers. They seem to be like me, themselves; thinking the government is going too far but now they say their bosses don’t want to take on any controversial issues which explains Justice Roberts and the entire show up there.

Cuomo made his deal with NY Senate Republicans before the election, seems like Obama did, too.

Let's assume you are right. However, how many democrats want to get rid of Liberals? How many Conservative want to get rid of Rinos? At least we have a foundation based on God almighty.

Anyone that moves the liberal agenda forward, like McConnell and Cornyn have done, over and over, by using their critical cloture votes is a liberal in my book.

Funding Obamacare and removing the debt limit were 2 cloture votes that the Leadership did to move the liberal agenda forward.

Then of course, they had show votes so they could show the rubes at home that they didn't vote for it.

They just voted to allow the Dems to pass it with 51 votes.
