US and Turkish military officials meet to hash out plans to train and arm 2,000 moderate Syrian rebels in Central Anatolia...
Free Syrian Army (FSA) members, including Syrian Turkmens will be trained at the Hirfanlı gendarmerie training center in Kırşehir, sources told to the Hürriyet Daily News. U.S. officials will also take part in the training.
The U.S. will primarily provide weapons and ammunition for the Syrian opposition, with the costs of the training also expected to be provided by Washington.
Around 2,000 Syrian fighters are slated to be given military training, which is set to begin at the end of December.
Sources suggested that Ankara and Washington were not able to agree on the training of Democratic Union Party (PYD) fighters, so the U.S. will conduct the training in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
Ankara is not warm on the idea of training PYD fighters, as it sees the group as an affiliate of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
Turkey also insists on a broader strategy that includes the ouster of Bashar al-Assad, but the U.S. is cold to purely targeting the al-Assad regime, expressing the necessity of including the struggle against elements of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to sources.

I have a bad feeling about this.
The civil war in Syria has been going on for over three years; this is the first time any syrious, er, serious effort has been undertaken by the US to arm and train anyone. And it hasn’t begun yet. Another foreign policy triumph.
Whose side will they be on..?
It’s like training 2000 future terrorists, and they will train thousands more. Someday American troops will be sent to Syria to fix another Islamic mess that can’t be fixed, and the people we are training will kill us.
What happened to the US training of Syrian rebels that was going on in Jordan not too long ago??
This is a fruitless endeavor. The problem is one word: Islam. A false religion based on an epileptic false “prophet.” Until the sane world recognizes this, nothing will change and the killing by Jihad will continue. My, my, what a tangled web we weave when all we practice is to deceive.
the FSA works with the IS since they hand over westerners to them. SO we are training the IS since they work with the FSA
I mean, what could go wrong?
Will they teach them to hate Americans there?

What could posibly go wrong?
Yes, and then the disastrous outcome will be treated as a big surprise. Look at Libya since it was "liberated" - hell on earth and a breeding ground for terrifying violence.
“US and Turkish military officials meet to hash out plans to train and arm 2,000 moderate Syrian rebels in Central Anatolia... “
There is no such thing as a “moderate Syrian rebel”. The US got played, once again.
Couple of months ago it was Saudi Arabia not Jordan. But maybe all three now (Turkey, SA & Jordan). They call these rebels “moderate Syrian rebels” - so conveniently vague.
Forty-five years ago activists were asking me to take part in Israeli/Palestinian demonstrations. I said no because I felt this would not be resolved in my lifetime and I had better things to do with my energy. I am now in my seventies, and fear I was right.
“You fear you were right.” Of course you were. Truth has suddenly crept up on you.
They mean Turkey will train 2000 more ISIS troops and the U.S will pay for it.
Now we've managed to drag a vulnerable mostly-ally into the mix.
Eventually... hopefully, please Dear Lord... this buffoon will exit the White House and his successor will be stuck trying to sort out all of his foreign policy disasters. But it WILL get sorted out.
Turkey will probably have to deal with this mess for a generation or more.
