Missouri governor activates National Guard

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in advance of a grand jury decision about whether a white police officer will be charged in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.
Nixon said Monday that the National Guard would assist state and local police as needed, in case there is civil unrest when the grand jury's decision is announced.
There was no indication an announcement is imminent....

Tomorrow would be a perfect time to release the decision. It is going to be freezing cold.

I have read elsewhere that the Governor doesn’t have the authority to call out the National Guard? What is the present law on this?

My guess is that the grand jury announcement will happen by Thursday at latest. I think the decision has been made already, just not released yet. People with the need to know are aware of what it is.
