A couple of I.E. dirtbags trolling over by John Wayne Airport for people/homes/businesses they could rob?
Throw the book at them!
(I.E. = Inland Empire, referring to the area they’re from)

I wonder if they were actual, select-fire, AK-47s.
Unfortunately, due to hoplophobia, monumental ignorance and poor reporting on the part of the news media we may never know.

A search of the van revealed that there were a total of seven AK-47 assault rifles, six 30-round high-capacity 7.62 caliber magazines, two 10-round magazines, and over 350 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition inside, police said. I sure hope they don't look in the trunk of MY car...

I wonder what their grounds for searching the vehicle were.

Oops. I guess they were not.
But they had been modified.

“...and all the rifles were modified to fire in fully automatic mode...”
Probably very crudely done, might not have been capable of semi-auto afterward.

Probably just going to sell them at the Newport Beach Flea Market. They sell everything there. First flea market I ever saw where used Lamborghini's, Porches and Jags are sold.

I was thinking the same thing at first, but if you are on Probation, they can Search the vehicle you are in or the place you are at whenever they want

Fergusson was my first thought as well. Doesn’t sound like they were on their way to the November Astronomy and Science Faire.
To: Parley Baer
Tip line was involved(I bet).

“I wonder what their grounds for searching the vehicle were.”
No tags, no dr license. The vehicle was to be impounded. SOP to inventory the vehicle contents.
Same will happen to anyone in any of the 50 states if they do the same thing.

The driver and presumably owner of the vehicle wasn’t on probation.

First tipped via text intercept, then patiently tailed for parallel reconstruction.

I have no sympathy. They sound like a couple of crooks. Probably stolen weapons that they were taking somewhere to sell.
