Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama announced with great gravity the other day that Republicans had decided not to impeach President Obama over his plan to allow millions of immigrants to remain in this country without fear of deportation through his executive authority. But that concession is not the end of the matter. He is planning much more serious mischief: using Congress’s power of the purse to pressure the White House into backing off.
Condemning the immigration action as “unlawful,” Mr. Sessions says he and other Republicans may filibuster any attempt to pay for government operations through the full fiscal year, which ends Oct. 1. Instead, he wants to pay for government through a series of short-term bills, possibly month to month, with each one trying to overturn Mr. Obama’s actions.
That raises the possibility of a budget shutdown fight every month for nearly a year. And Mr. Sessions’ voice will count in that fight — he is in line to be the new chairman of the Budget Committee.
Some Republican leaders, including the next majority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell, have tried to take a loftier position, saying they want a full year’s spending bill to avert a widespread shutdown. Nonetheless, they are seriously considering using short-term bills to pay for immigration enforcement. That approach is an implicit and reckless threat to close down immigration agencies to prevent them from issuing work permits to immigrants.
In the House, Speaker John Boehner has refused to rule out the possibility of threatening either a narrow or a full-scale shutdown to get Mr. Obama to back off his plans. Did Mr. Boehner learn nothing from the 16-day shutdown the House imposed on the country in October 2013?

If the NY Times is writing an editorial it usually means the issue worries them.
If the New York Times is against it, it must be good for The USA and the American people.
Send Obama a budget that zeroes out funding for immigration executive orders, Obama care, increases military funding and funds the rest of the government. Let him decide if he will shut down the government. Hold his judicial and executive appointments up until he withdraws amnesty orders. Not a single judge or ambassador or anyone else approved until he withdraws. Stand firm and remember that we did not send you to DC to get along with Obama but to STOP him.
I’m sorry, but without the imminent threat of impeachment there is no brake on Obolas actions. Even if it wouldn’t succeed the actions surrounding it would cause enough pot stirring to temper his excesses. Why disregard it? This is the congress’ version of ,”No boots on the ground”.
Impeachment is the nuclear war of the Constitution. How is anything "more serious" than that?
Forcing the president to obey the law is “mischief” in the eyes of the Slimes. But breaking the law isn’t.

Impeaching in the House is easy, convicting in the Senate with the 2/3 majority is the hard part. I don't think we should impeach just for show.
Seems I remember something about Esinhower saying “Crossing the Channel is the easy part, I don’t think we should land on the beaches just for show.”
We loose so much by “knowing” the results before we start.
The NYT makes no serious public, political, legal, or logical case here. All it has are strong words trying to make it sound ominous.
That means they know the smaller bill strategy and power of the purse will work.
IF the Republicans do it.
Obama has done more to damage this nation than anyone else. If anyone deserves to have the book...heck the entire library...thrown at him, he most certainly does.
If there ever was a time for the GOP to hit first, hit hard, and hit often, it’s now.
If they don’t, this nation is toast. We will financially collapse due to this new immigration deal...that is if Zer0Care doesn’t cause it first.

Shucks, I was about to make the same exact point, except maybe using more florid language.
As Rush has being saying, and I agree totally with, this wave election was due to the people who voted wanting the Senate and House to oppose the President. If the current Senate and House do that, and do it successfully, 2016 will be an even stronger signal.
And the President decided to double down on dumb, hoping the Senate will try to play nice.
Whatever the NY Times editorial page is for or against, pursue the opposite.

Or a constitutional threat to close down a tyrannical executive whose pen and phone need to be shoved down his throat.
By allowing the Executive to break the law...... and TRUMP the Legislative Branch.....
Anything they do.... CAN BE TRUMPED!
Because the President, by Executive Order, will TRUMP that too........ Connect the dots!
If the Executive Branch is allowed to illegally break the law by Executive Action, then the Excutive branch can do that with ANYTHING..........

The Executive branch knows that by congress cowarding and doing ABSOULTLY NOTHING... they have basically become ceremonial at this point.

At this point any signings by the Executive Brach,,,,,is simply to make these gutless collaborators feel like they are still relevant.
