Racial tensions are running high in New York in the wake of the death of Eric Garner at the hands of a police officer – and people have been up in arms at the decision to sing the song ‘White Christmas’ at the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Former Hootie and the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker sang the song at the Rockefeller Center this week – and it was immediately seized on as a racist choice.
Right-wing commentators, in turn, took this as evidence that left-wingers all thought the song was racist – and duly Tweeted their outrage, in even more unpleasant terms.
Composer Irving Berlin, a Russian Jew who died in 1989, would doubtless have been confused over the controversy.
The song, written in 1940, is not intended to have any racial content whatsoever – it’s a nostalgic song about past Christmasses, and the ‘white’ part is meant to be snow.
The Bing Crosby version of the song is thought to be the best-selling single of all time, having sold 50 million copies worldwide.
Stuck on white.
The White House is racist that’s for sure.

Oh, c’mon people. Can’t you see that since snow really bothers the Global Gloamers, snow has to be inherently & historically racist, sexist, bigoted, etc? (Yes, I know that some wackos connect any and all weather with ‘change,’ but the longer the snow stays on the ground and does not melt, the better the example that global cooling is on the way.)
Perhaps to further explain reality, I will use the old Soviet Union’s practice of re-writing history by literally air brushing persons out of photos. Once an official gained enough disfavor with the commies, Lenin, then Stalin would order all photos with this person altered, as if the person never existed. Sooooo...will the fascist powers that be order all photos with white snow to be altered to reflect the new, politically correct color of (??????)? With scanning and Photoshop, it will be much easier than in Stalin’s time.
Okay Let’s change it I am dreaming of a black christmas like all the christmas’s before. gee does not that really turn you off. White signifies snow and purity Black signifies dirt, mean and nasty. But White Christmas as racist. Gee, I never would ever thunk it that a White Christmas a song as being racist. Boy the race baiters and agitators are grasping at what snowflakes that melt right away too. Remember no snowflake is ever the same shap. But the race baiters and the size police will come out pretty soon and try to sue the clouds as being discriminating that they do not produce black snow.
So I guess snow is racist.
