I grew up as a white kid, in an all-white neighborhood, and I was taught not to curse, and not to threaten, and to stay calm and non-threatening, when talking to police.
And when talking to my teachers, and my neighbors, and pretty much everyone else I met.

In the ‘50s, Black families were strong and becoming integrated into the American Dream. Many were buying houses and improving the properties.
