A flag for a life is a pretty good deal.

He should get his flags tagged with some kind of “paint” that a sharpshooter can scope and then take him out.

Interesting development in that the Australian Imam condemned this act which may be a first. It is a way to ensure that the EASY LIFE THE MUSLIMS have in Aussie land is not disrupted and they can continue into the future with their Jihad plans.

As the Israelis say (though they’ve swayed a bit from this), the ONLY thing I promise you (terrorist) is that if you release all the hostages unharmed and give yourself up, I will not kill you. Any other options MUST result in the death of these scum and rounding up ALL individuals AND family members, shipping them out of Australia and that’s that.

Don’t know about Oz, but in the US you can’t deport family members of a criminal just for being related.

Which is as it should be.

Obviously there is always the question of what is behind the line of sight to the gunman. If he has set up some the hostages behind him then it may be too much of a risk while he is still talking. If he cuts off negotiations they will have to move on him quickly and they will.

There are many other civilized options: .308, .338, and .50 cal come to mind too. The only rule should be that the terrorist gets very little publicity beyond letting people know he's a terrorist holding hostages today, and that he's been sent to meet "Allah" face to face by tomorrow.

“demanded a flag of the Islamic State terror group in return for the release of a hostage.” — the flag they displayed in arabic writing is EXACTLY that of Saudi Arabia. Only the background colour is black not green.

death is what they want — to die a martyr at the hands of infidels sends them to jihadi heaven where they get 72 virgins to deflower (who magically “reflower” each night) and 18 young boys. And lots of wine with no hangover.

Wrong - gather up all family out to 1st cousins and deport them. If you are interested in effective means to prevent Sudden Jihad Syndrome that is the way.

But that doesn't seem to interest you.

I thought Australia outlawed gun possession? Where did this shooter get the weapon? When you take guns out of the hands of the people, this kind of stuff doesn't happen!

I'm tending toward journalistic sensationalism ... < /sarc>

This will change as things get worse. Eventually, “Profiling” and harsher punishments are on the way as global Jihad begins it's assaults. It is just a matter of time...there will be a time when deportations of family members will happen...

Quite possibly. Though I find it really difficult to square this with the Constitution, which does not provide for punishment of family members. In fact, the prohibition on corruption of blood implies the Founders were opposed to such.

Please point out to me where in the Constitution or law collective punishment of family members is allowed.

It might be effective. Maybe.

But that doesn’t necessarily make it constitutional, legal or right.

The Romans and Mongols had very effective ways of dealing with opposition. We don’t use them, because we’re the good guys. Remember?

What should be given is assurance that they will be sprayed with a fine mist of swine blood while still alive and a certain burial in pig entrails when dead.

The principles of 18th century Enlightenment must be preserved as much as possible but the Jihadis are winning thus far and we must ensure that those responsible for terror pay a very high price for their actions.
Look at Democratic Israel, with no US Constitution. Every single friggin’ day is a test of their open society versus bits of exploded children all over the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Even today, the Israeli FBI thwarted a massive suicide bombing plan. They too wrestle with the moral, democratic and legal issues with regards to terrorists. I think it is mild, blowing up a terrorist’s house. I think they need to have a collateral punishment. You know, the old disproportionate retaliation thing worked well for a long time, that equals detterrent. Today, the West has no real tools to fight these scum. Times will change. Only countries that live with terror really understand this.

“...300 WinMag thru the throat - single shot drop”

My first thought, too.

Don’t they have any trained snipers?

My half-blind grandma could have taken him out at that distance with grandpa’s old flintlock.

You be the “good guy” all you want. Then you can slap yourself on the back for being such a good dug while these savages are sawing people’s heads off and selling your daughters off as sex slaves.

The rest of us will be grownups about it and forcibly deport everyone of these savages including their pet goats.
