ARLINGTON, Va. — Alan Gross has called himself a “trusting fool” for going to Cuba in the first place. Family and friends described him with other words: gregarious and outgoing, with a talent for picking up and playing any musical instrument.
Gross, 65, was freed from prison Wednesday as part of an agreement that included the release of three Cubans jailed in the United States, officials said.

Obama is just getting out in front of it so he can claim it as his victory, and not the results of US government policies and hard work for the past 50 years. Time will tell. Everywhere an Obama policy touches explodes into chaos, terrorism, death, and misery. If this succeeds, it's not Obama's victory, but Cuba's surrender.
Cuba has blinked because it's pockets are empty, it's tired, it's hungry, and it doesn't have a boogeyman any more to blame.

During the Clinton years, when enforcement was lax, I went to Cuba with three friends…at least half a million Americans went on vacation to Cuba that year, and the country is full of Italian, Brit, etc tourists too.
I cannot even begin to tell you what a horrible life the Cuban people were living…somewhere on FR I posted when I returned. Sad, terribly deprived lives under threat of imprisonment for anything, including selling your neighbor a potato you dug up from your own yard. It’s THE STATE’s potato, you’re stealing from Castro……..
Cubans were delighted to see us, were very cordial, a couple even managed to tell us what they were up against, showed us their pathetic threadbare homes that hadn’t had a coat of paint for 40 years, and one even showed us the homes of Commie Party bigwigs, huge mansions in good repair. Fidel was HATED by the people, but they could never say so. They were spied upon 24/7, often in their own apartment buildings and on EVERY street corner.
My friends and I were very much in favor of ending the “embargo,” and letting Cubans have a life. I don’t think that’s going to happen, especial with Obola at the helm. He’ll give a bunch of speeches but the Cuban people will suffer on, as the Commie Bigwigs earn more brownie points and money.

I see no benefit to me or mine or the average American in this.
Cuba was trading with every other country in the world….and of course Castro kept the people paupers and himself in the 1%…according to Forbes Magazine, the year I went to Cuba, Castro was the wealthiest dictator in the world.
So I’m not sure I understand why they have no gasoline. Lots of Chinese suits walking around Cuba.
We could have gotten rid of the regime long ago if we had just flooded their economy with all the western stuff the people wanted. Its hard to keep em down on the farm once they’ve seen Pari. Remember that song?

What are they going to use for money? The Cuban people are broke. Hell, the Cuban government is broke. The rest of the world does not embargo Cuba so just about every good and service is available.
