On Thursday’s Hugh Hewitt radio show, conservative commentator Mark Steyn, author of “The Undocumented Mark Steyn,” said the actions by Sony Corporation not to face down apparent threats from North Koreans was a bad sign for the so-called power of American pop culture in its current state.

Nothing violent was going to happen. It is comical how they are trying to fool us.
and you know this because.....? we all knew that terrorists wouldn’t fly planes into our skyscrapers....until they did.
somebody calls in a bomb threat to your place of business - do you blow it off, and go to work, or stay home - just in case?
Do you think the leaders of NK are rational actors?
My point is that the Sony element of this story might only be a small part of it. And the only part we are seeing.
I think though, any threats of violence would be directed on the southern side of the Korean divide. Remember we still have armed forces folks there stationed.
But I still think the Norks knew that they are next, with the start of the westernization of Cuba as of this week.
Hacking is not required - poor programing will suffice.

The crew applied full power and the pilot attempted to climb. However, the elevators did not respond to the pilot's commands, because the A320 computer system engaged its 'alpha protection' mode (meant to prevent the aircraft entering a stall.) Less than five seconds later, the turbines began ingesting leaves and branches as the aircraft skimmed the tops of the trees. The combustion chambers clogged up and the engines failed. The aircraft fell to the ground.
Traditionally, pilots respect the inherent dangers of flying at low speeds at low height, and normally, a pilot would not attempt to fly an aircraft so close to stalling with the engines at Flight Idle (minimum thrust). But in this instance, the pilots involved did not hesitate to fly the aircraft below its normal minimum flying speed because the whole purpose of the flyover was to demonstrate that the aircraft's computer systems would ensure lift would always be available regardless of how the pilots handle the controls. The Captain's previous experience flying the aircraft type at the edge of its limits may have led to overconfidence and complacency.

i am not disputing your take, but sony did the only thing they could do without seriously endangering their entire business.
I wonder how much of of North Korea's "cyber" capability, is really China operating via North Korea for reasons of "plausible deniability".
Years ago our IT professionals in the company really fought allowing our company network(which was dedicated lines world wide) to be connected to the internet and allowing us access from any internet connected computer.
They said..and I think this is true..the only real security is an air gap between you and the net.

Don’t know if they have terror groups, but the have cyber terror groups. Would you wager your business life, and the lives of customers on whether they do?

very true. i was in on one of those arguments myself. they never address security all they did was clamor for the shiny thing being dangled before them, nary a one thinking about what it all meant. and now we have identity theft, government monitoring, loss of security in our most vital institutions, and now terrorists threats.
pretty much everything we predicted came true, and the question has become ‘was it all worth it’?

Plus also the Norks are scared, since Mr. Obama decided to end the Cuban embargo this week. Cuba will go western in a couple of years.
