The American Interest ^ | December 19, 2014 | Walter Russell Mead

The Obama administration may represent “Peak Left” in American politics. As a result, what we are getting from the left these days is a mix of bewilderment and anger as it realizes that this is as good as it gets.

There is a natural equilibrium to American politics and Obama, Pelosi, & Reid have upset it in a big way. This equilibrium can’t be undone by either party or ideology, but it can be moved in a certain direction. Leftism peaked in 2008-09 and is in retreat. It would be going even better if it weren’t for the Mainstream Media. The key is to play our cards right.

They don’t retreat...they are at the one yard line and pushing for the goal. This is the culmination of a coup that McCarthy warned us about back in the 1950’s.

The elections this year do not bode well for their goals.

They're getting a good look of what a totally allegedly disarmed society would look like.

Results have never, and will never, matter to them. It’s all about the power.

Liberal retreat’’? They’re retreating about as much as Japs in WW2 Banzai charge. Liberals never know when to give up. They’ll just keep on coming. It’s all about socialism. They’re never going to give up on that. All we have to do, they tell themselves is just get it right.

How so?

The Republican leaders have already surrendered and the new Congress hasn’t even been seated yet.

Excellent analysis. The Left is cratering. I am starting to smile again.

His conclusion that republiCrats winning the last election means total defeat of the progressive`s ideology is hilarious, given the latest back stabbing by the 'conservative`s savior' in the guise of the Crat party.,/p>

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Some, like the Ferguson story, became so complex and nuanced that some of their initial political salience diminished.

“Nuanced”. WTF!?

No, the left is everywhere victorious. What looks like a retreat to the author is society sinking into chaos as a result of the left’s conquest.

The article says nothing about a “total defeat” for the left, but rather that the public mood has shifted to the right.

Yes, but that’s not the point of the article. Did you even read it? It’s mainly about how the majority of the American PUBLIC isn’t buying into the left’s narrative and associated ideology.

Really? It looks like the pubbies have already folded their tent. The left never gives up. They have a limitless supply of discontent to spread.

Neither side ever gets enough power or money... never. The will keep going until they are stopped. Then the clock is reset to take off again.

Wash rinse and repeat. One despot after another through out history has to be defeated by quiet men trying to live simple lives.

Yes I read the article and I don’t agree with the premise. As a former liberal I can tell you they’ll never give up and if the right liberal huckster comes along in 2016 with the right spiel it’ll be off to the races once again. They’re like drunks who shook off last nights hangover.
