How do you know Mexico would respect it? I say that they would not.

Why, because they get tons of money by disrespecting our borders. They encourage it!

If Ukraine is a member of NATO, then we have to go to war against Russia if they invade. You’re willing to do that? All for “sticking it to the Russians”?

If Ukraine is in the process of obtaining NATO membership it may go a long way to getting the Russians to step back from a full invasion. If they do invade and annex all of Ukraine that puts Russian forces on a very tense Polish border. The Poles are not going to be the least bit receptive to having Ivan at their border again.

Because it worked out so well the last two times.

I'm willing to stand against aggression, Neville.

Your pointless attempt at an insult notwithstanding, why just Russian aggression? Do you want to go to war with Iran, too? They're quite aggressive. So is North Korea. China is very aggressive as well. How many wars are you willing to get us into and to what end? If we smash the combined militaries of all these countries, do we no longer have to worry about "aggression"?

Your thinking here, unfortunately, is not uncommon, especially on FR. So many tactical thinkers, nearly zero strategic thinkers. The calculus of international strategy is foreign to many people, and I fully admit I'm a neophyte at it myself, but, as distasteful an idea as it may be to you, it's very real. When Bachmann demands to Obama's face that he do something about Iran and he tells her "It's not that simple," the hell of it is that he's right. We've been at war for about 13 years now with nearly nothing to show for it. You wish to continue this trend? Keep charging in where we're not wanted. I believe the U.S. is a force for good, but we've got to work smarter.

Poland could very well be a NATO member. The Russians will throw a hissy-fit, talk smack in the international press, decry Western hegemony in Eastern Europe to the UN, but they won’t go much beyond diplomatic and informational means to stop it, they may even go economic with the pipeline, but I doubt it. Ukraine is a different story. Ukraine will not become a member of NATO. Europe relies too heavily on the Russian and Azerbaijani pipelines for their oil and natural gas. Russia can cut off their supply of the former and destabilize the latter enough to where the flow is interrupted (they already have Armenia in their pocket and Georgia is obviously quite vulnerable to them as well). This would sink Europe. Their governments won’t allow it, not in a million years.

We are standing against North Korean aggression. Thats why we have 28,000 men there. As for China, Washington has given specific assurances to Taiwan that the United States did not accept China’s claim to sovereignty over the island (Six Assurances).

Good for you MeganC standing up to these Putin lickspittles.

No one owes Russians anything, let them sink in their own mess they created themselves.

Ukrainians want to be free of the insane mongoloids known as Russians, then by God let them be free.

many russians in the thirtys who took over the country.

Time for snake eaters and russians to stop..........
A hundred years of dickheadednes is enough............

They sent a few of those snake eaters home in boxes.....

To: KOZ.

I think the news agencies overemphasize the NATO angle here.

Ukraine only adopted the non-aligned status in 2010. That was under heavy Russian pressure when Yanukovich was still in power.

From 2003 to 2008 Ukrainian forces participated in Iraq operation as part of the coalition.

Poland could very well be a NATO member.

Poland has been a full member of NATO since 1999. Your opinion of their status is irrelevant.

That’s exactly my feeling, too. The future of Ukraine needs to be in the hands of Ukrainians, not an imperialist thug from Moscow.

And if we let Putin get away with this then next up he’ll invade one of the Baltic countries because he’s already made clear that this will be his next move.

And then I expect the cowards on this thread to let him have it, too, because they can’t stand the thought of standing up to oppression until it’s too late.
