China’s leader is telling the People’s Liberation Army to prepare for war
The Week ^ | December 22, 2014 | Kyle Mizokami

Over the last several months, Chinese leader Hsi Chin-p’ing and the Chinese Communist Party have repeatedly exhorted the People’s Liberation Army to “be ready to win a war.”

Hsi has repeatedly called for greater military modernization, increased training, and enhanced overall readiness of the Chinese army, navy, and air force.

These repeated calls have alarmed China’s neighbors from New Delhi to Washington. The question on everyone’s mind: what is all this preparation for?

Is the Chinese leadership preparing for something? Are they gearing up for a military operation, or merely the option to carry one out? Or is there a more innocent explanation for all of this? …

Thanks for your reply. We have been seeing that template, in place, since at least 1993. I’m thinking that they may grab some territory, just to keep the military guys satiated. Wouldn’t need to be much fighting, that way, and it seems like some of these generals and admirals are pining for action. Better to have those guys messing with other Asians, as opposed to the Party Leaders.

You guys sure are convinced that Russia is desperate for nuclear war.

From NATO to China, to the U.S., they are just itching to nuke someone according to you guys.

"You guys sure are convinced that Russia is desperate for nuclear war."

I AM convinced that if we try to expel Russia from Ukrainian territory by military means that Russia will use nuclear weapons to prevent that.

Even a crazy warmonger like myself can see that.

I haven’t heard anyone calling for countering the Russian invasion of Ukraine by sending in NATO troops to fight them there, but you do seem to think that Russia is nuke crazy, or at least you want to convince Americans that they are.

You have Russia wanting to start WWIII to win Ukraine, and also against China, as though they are suicidal nuts.

That silliness really seems to be geared to defend an Obama like or Jimmy Carter like timidness in the West by convincing Western sheep that Russia is crazy mad and just looking for any excuse to destroy it’s 142 million people in a nuclear holocaust.

They’ll annihilate the Phillipine contingent on the outpost at the reef. Move in. Raise a flag.

Phillipines can not repel.

Chinese have nuclear deterrent too. Also historically, they aren’t great on the water but pretty kick ass on land.

"I haven’t heard anyone calling for countering the Russian invasion of Ukraine by sending in NATO troops to fight them there"

Then you haven't read all the posts on this thread.

"That silliness really seems to be geared to defend an Obama like or Jimmy Carter like timidness in the West by convincing Western sheep that Russia is crazy mad and just looking for any excuse to destroy it’s 142 million people in a nuclear holocaust."

That statement shows you know Jack. You know, Jack Sh!t. I was doing existential warfare against the Russians when you were still smoking weed and pissing yourself whenever a real man approached. When you have feared for your life and killed to protect it, get back to us...and be sure to ride your high horse when you come.

I served in the army under Nixon and Reagan, and under Reagan was serving in NATO.

So you can drop the childish stuff as you try to convince America that Russia is too tough and mean, and crazy to stand up to.

"and under Reagan was serving in NATO"

Then you know, first hand, the first side to lose big in a military engagement in Europe will strike with tactical nukes.

And you also know that to extend NATO means we pledge on our sacred honor that we will defend that nation at the risk of our own, no matter the cost.

Including general nuclear warfare with an equivalent nuclear power.

The USA has no interest in Ukraine that is worth that promise. None.

No, I have no reason to think that Russia wants to commit suicide by attacking NATO with nuclear weapons if they meet resistance while trying to invade a NATO country, nor that they want to watch their military get wiped out in a conventional attack against NATO (leaving them defenseless against China and internal elements.

This isn’t 1989, and Russia doesn’t have anywhere near the muscle that they used to have, in fact much of that muscle switched over to NATO, they don’t have the military to imagine that they can conquer Western Europe and defeat America and the rest of NATO in war, so there is no MAD situation existing today, or one where we have to depend on the last ditch defense of tactical nukes to halt the massive millions of the Soviet hordes sweeping into the capitols of the West.

In your imagination, you have Russia wanting to go nuclear against everyone to make up for their lack of military, in the case of NATO to conduct invasions of NATO nations, and in the case of China, to defend against losing some of their territory.

“Including general nuclear warfare with an equivalent nuclear power.” and France and Britain.
Russia has no interest in Ukraine that is worth that promise. None.

The scenario under discussion, and the very point of the article you are posting under, is the expansion of NATO to include Ukraine, while Ukraine is under Russian occupation.

Why do you keep imagining other, not relevant scenarios not posited by anyone but you?

You are building straw men, tearing them down, then impugning the character of anyone who does not support your rhetorical efforts.

Are you the only one who does not see that?

Ukraine is under Russian occupation?

It was generous of the Russians to allow American troops to be conducting military exercises there this summer.

If NATO is conducting military exercises in a Russian occupied nation, then perhaps the Russians are not so committed to going nuclear as you think, or want to convince Americans to fear.

Preaching fear and surrender to Russian conquest does show a lack of character, it is the same old, same old of the left, for at least 75 years.

You don’t think that NATO troops have been conducting exercises inside of Ukraine?

You still want to sell your fear mongering that if Europe protects itself from Russian aggression that the Russians will just commit suicide by going nuke?

You have a single minded message, of submit to Russia.
