A few thoughts.
Lets enter this through the correct steps.
1) It is a behavior, not who you are.
2) Is this behavior a good one for the individual and society?
3) What causes the behavior?
4) now what do we do? based on the above?
But the intent of the article is to validate the behavior without discussing the above points.
I suspect this was an imprinted behavior REINFORCED by other juveniles, not adults. Do some research on imprinting.
The advice from counselors was good, turn God to change. Was it followed? I don’t know but it is hard to change. But the advice is still good. Most change requires a Higher Power, bigger picture, recognizing it is behavior not who I am, and the WANT TO CHANGE.
The imprinting from our youth is hard to overcome, and if done right it is a good thing but not if it is perverted.
I will repeat to you, it is a behavior, it is not who you are.

All media and public schools are used to force the “proper” perceptions which will create “Happy” (drugged) Slaves for the State. Truth hasn’t been allowed in the public schools (using UNJUST LAW which is unconstitutional law) for over 50 years now.
Transgenderism is a mental disorder. Mentally ill people need professional treatment to deal with their disorders. They do not need to be respected and given allowances to permit them acting out their disorders.
Just like a schizophrenic needs professional help and not given rights to act out his schizophrenia because he truly is a schizophrenic inside and we need to let him be schizophrenic and embrace his schizophrenic identity.
Fixed false beliefs that are resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact (delusions) are not rare. It is somewhat rare, although well-known, for delusions to lead to self-mutilation.
It is absolutely, positively, 100% new and very disturbing for sane persons in positions of authority to support and enable a particular species of delusion like this.

Mental illness is sad. It’s even sadder when liberals celebrate and encourage that mental illness. I was born male, with brown hair and green eyes, and that is all genetic - wishing won’t change any of those facts. Even pretending that my eyes are not green will not change their color - they are green, it’s just a fact. Even mutilating my genitals would not change my sex - I’m male, it’s just a fact.
This poor guy was told repeatedly that if he just pretended hard enough and others played make believe with him, he could become a girl. Telling that lie to a mentally ill kid is child abuse.
It is nice to see some movement on a subject that has been mired in 1950’s psychology. It is interesting that a such a “disease” that requires such drastic mutilation, has not been researched using post-millennial tools and techniques. When someone is “diagnosed” as transgender where are the CAT scans, MRIs, blood work, DNA work and other diagnostic techniques that would search for biological causation? None.
Where are the psychological diagnostic instruments that would confirm or deny? None.
Where are the trials of antipsychotics, antianxiety agents and psychotherapy to test the contents of the patient’s beliefs? None.
Where is the research about diagnostic decisions trees that include biological paradigms? None.
Instead we are told that the patient makes the diagnosis. Because they have felt like the opposite sex from their DNA since they can remember. Not accounting for the fact that in delusional processes, the past is incorporated in the delusions i.e.: when I treat the secretary who thinks she is the Queen of England, although her delusional onset may be recent (within a matter of months or days, at times) her delusions will include memories of being a child-queen, for acute delusional processes are often seamless.
Parents who arrive at schools and clinics with children dressed and raised as their DNA opposites are hailed as brave instead of studied as classic cases of Munchhausen by Proxy where parents seek attention by making up and believing the child is different, ill or diseased and providing symptoms and evidence to back the parent’s need.

Mental disorders like this that are dubiously forced to be accepted and encouraged as a good, are still in truth a mental disorder...no amount of public support changes that fact.

You are born male and female only unless severe abnormality which is just that——All behaviors or desires are created by the environment. People who hate themselves and the Design of their Body—learn to hate it starting in infancy by the reaction of parents and then of peers to themselves. All the gender cr*p (women’s studies/queer studies) is pure Marxist theory which is designed to group people, and destroy Virtue in humans (Teaches Lies as Truth to little children and destroys Christian Ethics which created Individual Natural Rights from God and the Age of Reason and Modern Science.
Marxists have to destroy Individuality and Reason and Virtue for their collective slavery. So they have to condition children to believe there is no God, no Design in Nature, and sex ed ( Cultural Marxism/Lukacs) is used to destroy Virtue and Natural Law (bases of Justice). As Aristotle knew in his Nicomachean Ethics thousands of years ago-—without Virtue taught and learned by young children-—you collapse culture.
Without Virtue, civil society collapses. That is what this Sex perversion does-—destroys Reason and Logic in children and the possibility of being Wise (discerning Good and Evil). They will never think like a Washington or Jefferson or Lincoln or Wilberforce.
The indoctrination in public schools has been going on to flip Good and Evil and erase Christianity-—since before John Dewey, the Socialist who destroyed our moral code for Moral Relativism (which is antithetical to our Constitution and Objective Truth and God).

Schizophrenia commonly starts in the early teen years when the brain is rewiring itself.
So, yes; it is likely untreated mental illness.
