Hours before vote, small GOP opposition to John Boehner grows (shenanigans to change the threshold)
Politico ^ | 1/6/15 9:47 AM EST | By Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan

Boehner’s opposition grew Tuesday morning just a few hours before the vote...

...At least 12 House Democrats will be in Manhattan attending Mario Cuomo’s funeral Tuesday in Manhattan. Another “handful” of Democrats are already planning to skip the vote, and that number could grow much larger, according to Democratic insiders. But every Democrat who skips the speaker vote helps lower the threshold for Boehner to be reelected.

Air travel is already slowed as well. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is holding aircraft at their destination until 10 a.m., and is experiencing delays of between 15 and 30 minutes for flights already in the air. GOP leadership has no plans to delay the vote, sources said...

Boehner has enough allies — upwards of 100 — who have privately vowed they will never vote for another candidate for speaker besides Boehner. That would make a so-called compromise candidate almost impossible to elect. Many of Boehner’s allies have said for months that they will keep voting for Boehner until the opposition subsides...

I came across this article while perusing this one:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/01/05/the-boehner-for-speaker-whip-count/
The ‘Boehner for speaker’ whip count
By Aaron Blake
January 6 at 9:55 AM

At least 29 House Republicans would have to desert Boehner for him to lose another term as speaker.

But it’s also becoming evident that he’ll probably lose more votes this time around...

That 29 number, we would emphasize, is a minimum. Boehner needs a majority, so if some members don’t vote, Boehner’s threshold for winning will be lower than the usual 218 votes — as it was in 2013, when it was 214 votes. So if some of these Boehner opponents vote for nobody — as Labrador and Mulvaney did in 2013 — that hurts Boehner less.

Update: As Politico reports, at least 12 House Democrats are skipping the speaker vote to attend former New York governor Mario Cuomo’s (D) funeral. That increases the threshold for pushing Boehner to a second ballot to 35, making him even safer...

If conservatives will be the death of the GOP, as all in the leftist media have been telling us for years, then why would the democrats try to help Boehner? (Rhetorical, of course)

I was never very optimistic....

The fix is in folks. DC is against us. I am afraid nothing short of CW2 will fix this issue.

The cowardice of the House Republicans now does not bode well when it comes time to stand up to the Chicago gang in the WH.

Given the past two years, why would you expect anything different? I wish Grimes had taken out McConnell.

Boehner has enough allies — upwards of 100 — who have privately vowed they will never vote for another candidate for speaker besides Boehner. That would make a so-called compromise candidate almost impossible to elect.

After the second ballot or so (and promises from compromise candidates), these allies will relieve themselves from this "private vow".

WHY does it always have to happen in the coldest damned weather ??!!!!?

My body basically functions in good weather, but I hibernate in the winter.

then why would the democrats try to help Boehner?

I would think the Dems would want a 2015 version of Newt Gingrich, someone they can demonize in the run-up to the 2016 election, rather than a milquetoast Boehner. They already have their Cromnibus with Obamacare funded and they know DHS will get funded, so they don't need Boehner to manipulate behind the scenes to give them what they want. Why wouldn't they want a Louie Gohmert as speaker, to demonize on the way to moving Hillary! or Warren! or Bernie! into the White House?

if Democrat voting activity is giving Boehner the speakership, the mask is removed.

"Watch for some ‘rats to cross the aisle."

They don't have to cross the aisle.

The ruling class has figured a way to thwart the will of the people w/ clean hands.

At this point ANY Rep. that votes for Boehner IS the enemy.

And I let my congressman know that.

“The fix is in folks. DC is against us. I am afraid nothing short of CW2 will fix this issue.”

I couldn’t agree more. See my tagline - we are getting ready. At least we won’t be feeding the fascist beast our taxes any more. As soon as EBT cards don’t work and inflation huts from all the money printing, there will be chaos. As planned by Cloward-Pivan. I hope the outcome is the opposite that this fascist regime hopes for.

Right, I went looking this morning to see how many Rats would need to show their support when I ran across this article.

Are all of the reps in DC now? Weren't they sworn in yesterday?

There is one thing we ALL need to do right now, and that is ask God to give our reps courage to vote on principle-—not politics!

I could easily be in error, but I think there was more opposition in the run-up to the vote last time.

When the vote came in, all of the people who said they would vote no, voted yes.

Power corrupts from the top down. Always.
