Nearly two of every three families making an interstate move involving New Jersey last year were leaving the Garden State, the highest rate in the country.
New Jersey had the greatest percentage of outbound moves of any state nationally last year with almost 65 percent departing,

I am reminded of the last line in “The Lost Boys”. With a slight change.
Ft. Lauderdale’s nice,,,,, except for all the damn zombies.
I look forward to adding to this exodus total in the near future.
One often hears that this is making our state politically bluer. I disagree. It's not a cross-section of New Jersey, representative of the population as a whole, that's moving elsewhere. Rather, it's corporate relocations, self-selected moves by entrepreneuers, and retirees. My experience is that they, for the most part, lean conservative.
Evidence?
Compare the 1980 and 2012 elections. The Republican candidate carried North Carolina by about 2% both times (Reagan, in 1980, won 49.30% to 47.18%; Romney, in 2012, won 50.39% to 48.35%). But the shift in the Republican direction in Union County, as well as the huge population growth, is evident: in 1980, Carter carried Union County over Reagan by 10,073 to 9,012; in 2012, Romney routed Obama in the county 61,107 to 32,473.
My conclusion is that while our new neighbors may occasionally annoy by rooting for the Steelers and preferring bagels over Krispy Kremes, they vote right.
I think you are 100% correct. Housing is scarce in ND so workers are just packing whatever they have into a truck or van and heading out there. Many are leaving family behind in their home states, working in ND, renting a room, and sending money back home.
That’s the only graphic I’ve seen that would classify California as a balanced state.
I have Vladimir and Nahzeda from whatever northern liberal utopia they came from as prime examples of what is wrong with the locusts coming here to SC. For the good people from the north, I have no problems.
We live near Fort Jackson and it probably grates on their nerves having to hear bugle calls.
I’ve heard that Walmarts in ND rents out parking spaces to RV’s for pretty significant rents. I have a buddy who recently moved to Wyoming for the gas business. It’s like another gold rush.
I was wondering if they would go to NC. How depressing.
Use Sperlings Best Places. I check voting on every town.
This is the page to find your best place and then just click on the logo to do city comparisons. There are also cost of living comparison sites.

I’m back in PA temporarily. Lived in MO’s Ozarks and loved Arkansas (but I wasn’t living there), then went to NC and it is a good place too. SC is also said to be good. City by city check with bestplaces is invaluable.
I’ll probably end up in TX cause of my arthritis.
I couldn’t figure that one out either. Must be young and very liberal.
Lots of Russians in Northeast Philly and Scranton.
I weep with you. How I love Virginia..my home state and always in my heart. I moved 20 yrs ago to the Missouri Ozarks and have grown to enjoy it but it is not Virginia.
Not according to the census, VT lost population. I think United must be counting vacation home inbound. The only inbound I see are welfare rats that have exhausted their options in MA.
Not in 2014 but they are laying off people like crazy over the last couple weeks.
Bad news for folks in red states..............
How can they prove you have left, and how can they collect?
Only when you sell your property and you don’t have a valid NJ ID like driver’s lic etc. There are a ton of different this thing is viewed. One is : No federal tax gain on sale,no state tax.
Camden is Filthadelphia :)
