I am not Charlie
Regarding Massacre at French paper stuns world (Jan. 8), the killing of 12 people at the French newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, is appalling. Hopefully, the perpetrators will soon be caught and prosecuted. The fact that 12 people are dead over cartoons by white, male cartoonists is horrible.
Free speech is an important part of our society and criticism of Charlie Hebdo cartoons is also speech. But no one should be killed over cartoons. However, the statement Je Suis Charlie (I Am Charlie) ignores the magazines history of xenophobia, racism, sexism and homophobia. I sympathize with the victims families, but I will not be Charlie.

Which it isn’t even clear that they were... they might have just been way too brutally frank about it for the taste of the Perpetually Offended of San Freaksicko.

Ralph misses the point of the “I am Charlie”.
It has nothing to do about the content and everything to do about the right of the authors to publish their content.
“I am Charlie” is statement of support for the Western concept of freedom of speech.
The slaughter at the offices of the magazine is a direct attack by the Islamic world against the West. If you ain’t Charlie, you are Mohammed.
The names just popped into my mind. It sure would not have gone down the same way in any town in Texas, including Paris. All of the staff at a threatened media outlet would have been packing, for one thing.
there we have it! there cant be tha many leftist Ralph Stone..”writers” in San Francsico

I was born in Massachusetts; graduated from Middlebury College and Suffolk Law School; served as an officer in the Vietnam war; retired from the Federal Trade Commission (consumer and antitrust law); travel extensively with my wife Judi; and since retirement involved in domestic violence prevention and consumer issues.
Your take on all of this is the best
I’m proud to say I failed two and a half years of French in high school. Manifique, n’est pas?
“by white, male cartoonists “
I guess these homosexuals in San Fran would have been happier if the cartoonists were homosexual.
Homosexuals are mentally ill.
I would not be surprised if this author would love to see the same thing happen to anyone that disagrees with his (or hers) views.
The ironic thing is, that if Islam wins this war, homosexuals will be some of the first to die.
eff off Ralph
In most of Texas, a law abiding armed citizen is the police’s natural ally.
Don’t call Ralphie “Charlie”! He prefers to be called Charlene.
Exactly, Although I am a Texan by choice. (got here as fast as I could), Natives are a no-nonsense group, thats why I love it here. I love Nebraska too, but I wore out on the cold.- still always a husker, but Texas is a great place to live.
Oh I understand and I do certainly have a brain.
As a Christian I am secure enough in my religion and beliefs that no one can attack them. As long as the “art” doesn’t involve harming children, animals or non-consensual adults I just turn my back to it. Who in the world have ever heard of this magazine prior to these events? I can choose to view the “art” or not but in no way can I choose to kill the creators.
“how can I tell him CHARLIE bears NO RESPONSIBILITY “
That’s easy. Tell your son he has no right to rape a girl just because she “dresses like she’s asking for it”, no more than writing cartoons lay responsibility for being murdered.
