Boehner joins the right-wing battle against immigrants

If you beat them, join them. That appears to be John Boehner’s new motto. Even though 90 percent of the Republicans in the House voted to re-elect him speaker, John Boehner has decided to appease the 25 right-wing Republicans who voted for someone else. To the delight of the far right, Boehner has taken a hard line against immigrants including Dreamers. This may hurt the GOP’s chances in the 2016 election.

Rather than punish those who opposed him, Boehner has sided with them by supporting an immigration plan that would block President Barack Obama's recent limits on deportations and undo protections for immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children, the Dreamers.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Texas Republican who challenged Boehner for speakers was delighted. Florida Rep. Richard Nugent, another of the 25 House Republicans who voted to oust Boehner, also praised the Boehner-backed immigration plan.

At issue is a $39.7 billion spending bill to keep the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funded beyond February. When Congress passed the budget in December, they only funded the DHS until February to appease Republicans who want to punish President Obama for his executive actions on immigration reform.

Many are concerned that if Republicans continue to hold DHS money hostage, it would close down the department at a time when home-grown terrorism is on the rise. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that Republicans will still fight immigration even if it risks halting funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“I believe that the president’s executive actions with regard to immigration are outside of the Constitution and outside of his powers, and I believe that we can deal with that issue in the Department of Homeland Security bill without jeopardizing the security of our country,” Boehner told reporters Friday.

Boehner can't be trusted, so we'll see what games he's playing when a bill hits the floor.

Boehner is doing these empty gestures to try to “appear” conservative so he can undermine real conservatives for attacking him. He will use this and then belittle real conservatives saying they are delusional.

He pretends to take our side until the final hours of decision come. Then he becomes a wet noodle once again.

He is just resting from his normal “screw me, Dorkbama baby” position.
He will bend over again soon.

Boehner’s doing the will of the American people - people who are overwhelmingly against illegals...

An illegal’s not an immigrant anymore than a thief’s an honored guest.

Freeloading, illegal alien invaders ARE NOT IMMIGRANTS. They are freeloading, illegal alien invaders. I am pro-immigrant. I’m for the immigrants who come to America for the opportunities and freedom. Not those who come here for the free stuff and want to make money to send HOME to where they came from.

“The dwindling moderate wing of the GOP sees trouble ahead now that Boehner has joined the Tea Party wing on immigration. Republicans cannot win the White House without strong support from Latinos. This action flies in the face of what most Latinos want to see.”

Boehner will find more “unity” by uniting with conservatives than he will with moderates and democrats!

He may not be sincere but it is better than nothing. At this point it is all we can get.

Boehner has done NOTHING but protect pRes_ _ent Obola
and to keep the borders open, and the EV-D68 coming in,
to coverup the IRS and Fast&Furious abuses,
and to keep the money going out to the “rebels (al Qaeda)”.

Exactly! Usually the House leadership starts from a moderate position and moves left. I’d rather them start from a far right position and move to moderate (if they need to). The House has all the cards. About time they use them.

I’d rather see Boehner/house leadership start as a Centrist and stay the course as a centrist.

And, by centrist, I mean having a viable nation with defensible borders. You know, something that Jefferson/Madison/Hamilton/Washington/Adams-I/Adams-II/Monroe/etc could all agree on.

I guess it's possible Boehner realized he almost got his butt handed to him last week and
noted that his constituency is not pleased with him. It would sure be nice to see him
representing us for a change.

Titles like this annoy me to no end. It bothers me hugely that our absurd press thinks of immigrants as people who pick lettuce and strawberries rather than people working in labs at Universities, at hospitals, in industry, etc..
