Florida is truly hated by the Antis. We got the Concealed Carry avalanche started and we did not make any friends by re-instituting Stand Your ground and a slew of other Pro-Second Amendment bills. If we could be erased from the map while keeping DisneyWorld, they would have done so already.

Indeed it is. That's because it is less about a background check and more about building a National Gun Registration list.
You can buy more than one gun at one time and only have to pass one UBC, but you still have to fill out a Form 4473 for each firearm.
Until we break that 4473 link with a UBC, we will see more and more of these "sensible" laws enacted via the initiative process as the voters are either too gullible or apathetic to recognize the danger. Sad to admit, but Gruber was right.
We need our own UBC that doesn't use NICS (or let the public access that database) to undermine Bloomberg efforts or we will most assuredly go down to defeat. The NRA, GOA, et al have to quit high-fiving everybody over the last election and get Congress to give us access to the NICS files.
