“We are facing one of the largest storms in the city’s history,” Mayor de Blasio said. “This could be a storm…the likes of which we have never seen before.”
Snow is expected to begin falling just before sunrise on Monday before the serious blizzard kicks in late in the afternoon and through Tuesday morning’s rush, forecasters said.
Garbage and recycling will be suspended Monday and Tuesday so New York’s Strongest can put full efforts into clearing up to 36 inches of snow.

Time for Obama/Holder and Sharpton to call for a Sanitation Dept. strike, and DeBlasio to fly to a secret location in the Caribbean with Charlie Rangel.
A few years ago they had so much snow out in parts of Washington State that some of the ski resorts had to close. The snow was so deep that the ski lifts couldn't be operated.
2-3 feet of snow in the Northeast is a massive storm.
THIS is like something your mind can't even grasp:
I believe this photo was taken up on Chinook Pass in June of 2011, at the end of a winter season when they had 860 inches of snowfall (that's more than 71 feet.
Now this NYC area storm seems like a piece of cake. LOL.
All of which happens year-round, and when it rains...it washes it all down the sewer...and into the river.
The NYC officials were telling everybody how to go about their daily lives and what they "should" and "shouldn't" do. It was the ultimate nanny state speech.
Of course this is also the "worst ever" with all sorts of implications that it was caused by SUVs.The people in NYC are apparently unable to cope with a storm without government intervention because it has never snowed there before, apparently.
Back in the 1990's when I lived in Philadelphia we had some storms like this... they took the snow and dumped it in the river.

Boston got hit with one storm on Jan 20th that drop 21 inches, then the “Blizzard of 78” hit dropping another 28 inches two weeks later.
Then there was the tidal surge that destroyed thousands of homes - basically a winter hurricane.
All I can say is that device had better be solar powered. Fossil fuel snow melters are evil.
Ontanogan Michigan averages around 30 feet per winter.
The snow is supposed to start falling tomorrow morning. They're saying the morning rush will be close to normal, but they're warning people to leave work early tomorrow if they can. The peak of the storm will be tomorrow night and Tuesday morning.
This is basically the worst combination of weather you can get in the Northeast. A coastal storm is working its way up with warm air and lots of moisture, and a cold front is pushing in from the west. This does two things:
1. It reduces the air temperature as the coastal storm moves through the area. Since cold air can't hold as much moisture as warm air, the result is a lot of precipitation. Folks who grew up in the Northeast may remember the sailor's creed: "Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning ... red skies at night, sailors delight!"
I was up early this morning, and we had a brilliant red sunrise the likes of which I haven't seen in years -- if at all. I don't think that's a good sign, folks. LOL.
LOL — yes, for sure.
I remember that one very well. I had a friend on the ski patrol up there who was one of the last ones up the mountain - said that first his skis, and then his butt, were dragging. When he got back to the parking lot there were no cars visible. They were all buried all the way over the roof with no safe way to dig them out except by hand, and nowhere to drive them once they were dug out. I ended up driving him and a couple of his friends home. They skied to the car.
The middle of Manhattan where Fifth and Sixth Avenue run north and south is about forty feet higher in elevation than the east or west side highways. So, to some extent once it starts to melt the water runs downhill towards the Hudson river eventually. They have open lots where they do end up dumping much of the snow. However, they have to load it in dump trucks and haul it away.
My coworker Tom will be pumped. He sells rock salt by the truckload. His main supplier is American Rock Salt just south of Rochester, NY. He sold ten trucks of salt on Friday. I bet the phone will be ringing off the hook tomorrow and Tuesday.
Austin, TX averages about ?what is this snow they keep talking about? per year.
Or not, depending on the union situation. Remember 2010?

I think for the most part NE snow is much heavier due to heavier water content, when I was stationed in Utah we just swept the snow away with a broom in depth up to 6 - 8”, being more powdery it blows around much more out West, in NE it tends to turn to ice faster.
Blue States voted in Obama and DeBlassio. That is the reason for the lack of concern for them.
If you are none of the above, then I wasn't talking to you.
There's still a little time, normal people should get out while they still can.
