COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities said they have found two bodies believed to be those of a missing Cobb County couple after a long search Monday.

During a press conference late Monday afternoon, Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson said the bodies of a man and woman matching their description were found a short ways away from the car belonging to the couple. They said that car was found submerged in a lake.

"My heart goes out to the Runion family. We've done everything we possibly could do to get this family found, get their parents found, unfortunately it's a sad outcome, but hopefully there will be some closure knowing that they have been located," Sheriff Steverson said during a press conference Monday afternoon.

My guess was that the perp(s) were Black, which is true in, what, 90%+ of these cases?

I was wrong, it was white guy, from ‘a good family’. No need to say he was ‘turning his life around’ either.

My guess is that this guy didn’t act alone, I believe he was involved and maybe not even the murderer. We shall see.

I once advertised an expensive Carl Zeiss binocular in a throw-away paper which had free ads.

A couple from around 120 miles away phoned, asked a lot of intelligent questions and said they would drive down and look at them. I told them I would be happy to meet them half way but they insisted.

Just before we were to meet, they phoned and asked if we could meet half way. We did and they turned out to be well known people who I would have known if they told me.

I did sell them and I figured they wanted to make sure of who I was before making the deal. That is why they insisted on getting my home address. They were no dummies.

I forgot one thing in my reply:

I haven't watched "48 Hours" (if you mean the CBS show), but "The First 48" on A&E matches your description (as well?) and is one of my favorite shows.

Sometimes I worry about an analog to the "CSI effect"--a number of things go by that name, but here I mean an inadvertent way of teaching aspiring criminals how to conceal their crimes (in the case of CSI, primarily forensically). Occasionally suspects who appear on "The First 48" (as the camera follows them after their arrests) shout out something about having watched it.

Then again, I suspect that the number of stupid murderers will be nice and steady. It also doesn't hurt that many murders on the show appear to be drug-related.

Craigslist is just the vehicle used quite often for shady dealings.

Stuff like this happens sans Craiglist too. Just this year an elderly couple here in the Phoenix area had their home invaded. They were forced to drive to the ATM and withdraw cash. They were then killed.

As far as I know, they never found the killers.

I have seen nothing yet to indicate foul play other than the suspicion no Mustang existed and the possibilities of what may have happened.

It is also quite possible they just drove themselves into the lake by accident after a 3 hour drive into unfamiliar territory.

The original article, at least as of my writing this post, does say this:

Earlier in the day, FOX 5 learned that that the suspect in the disappearance of a Cobb County couple had turned himself in to authorities.

--SNIP--

Earlier, Telfair Sheriff's investigators obtained warrants for Towns, wanted in the case of missing Bud and June Runion of Cobb County.

Towns will be charged for giving false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception, but additional charges will be pending following the outcome of an autopsy of the two bodies that were found.

You are quite wrong about craigslist. Yes there are scammers there but not everyone. I have baught and sold many items, big ticket items and have never had a problem .

As other people have written in this thread, what goes on there isn't all bad; if it were, craigslist would probably have a much poorer reputation. (I don't use the site for myself, but I help someone with the occasional posting, though for the type of thing that involves a semi-public event with multiple people at once and no large amounts of money changing hands.)

One key is being careful. Other people in this thread have mentioned safety tips. I haven't looked at every link yet, but safety is a good thing.

If the guy still had the Mustang money in his pocket then it would be just an unfortunate accident-—bad enough but not criminal on anybody elses part?

You got two choices here cherokee, either take your head out of your ass or offer up your services as an attorney for the thug that was taken into custody.........

My suggestion is that you give up law and leave your head right where it is........Sheesh!

Omaha police recommend all Craigslist transactions occur at the police or sheriff’s office/station.

I ask again, how did he think he could get away with this?

It wasn't that he "thought" he could get away with it. That would have required "thinking."

I agree about craigslist. But the man posting an add offering to buy a 66Mustang was just advertising that he had wads of money. You need to be smarter than that everywhere nowadays.
