(Virginia General Assembly) Article V Con Con Legislation Up TOMORROW! (Today, January 27th)
The Marshall Message | January 26, 2015 | Delegate Bob Marshall

Posted on 01/27/2015 8:27:31 AM PST by Perseverando

Dear Friends:

On Tuesday Jan. 27thSpeaker Howell’s Rules Committee will hear HJ 497 and HJ 499, applications asking Congress to call a Convention to amend (change) our U.S. Constitution. Please contact the following delegates to OPPOSE these measures. The Hearing will be in House Room 1, around 1:00 pm if you can attend.

After all of the sacrifices made by our Founders to birth our nation and form our government, I am troubled that the Constitution is blamed for the ills facing America, when really they are caused by those who ignore their Oath of Office and “we the people” who let them get away with it! Dictators love to hear: “elections will never solve our problems.”

Once called by Congress, the Convention cannot be stopped or limited and will have complete authority to change any part of our Constitution! The only other convention, held in 1787, re-wrote the Articles of Confederation, and changed the ratification requirements from unanimous to three fourths! Yes, it gave us our present Constitution, but we had many statesmen of moral conviction who fought the War of Independence leading the nation at that time. Madison said he trembled at the thought of a second convention after witnessing the first!

The entire Constitution will be open for amendment (change) at the Convention. The Library of Congress (April 14, 2014) Congressional Research Service points out that in the 1970’s-80’s when Balanced Budget applications nearly reached the 34 state threshold, 41 bills were introduced in Congress which “generally included quite specific standards for state petitions, delegate apportionment formulas and delegate qualification…” (p. 36 CRS document R42589) so Congress will be involved.

Randy Barnett, who supports the Convention, in an April 23, 2009 Wall Street Journal article noted: "An amendments convention is feared because its scope cannot be limited in advance. The convention convened by Congress to propose amendments to the Articles of Confederation produced instead the entirely different Constitution under which we now live. Yet it is precisely the fear of a runaway convention that states can exploit to bring Congress to heel." That's like playing a game of "chicken" with our Constitution!

The state legislators planning the Article V Convention rejected a motion that would have prevented Members of Congress, the US Senate, federal judges and governors from serving as convention delegates. They also tabled a motion to restrict the subject matter of the convention.

How would constitutional conservatives have the upper hand at a national bipartisan convention, if conservatives don’t have the upper hand right now in politics, government, schools, churches, health care, or the media? And the liberal Wolf-PAC has also secured passage of three state applications for an Article V Convention with the help of the Young Turks and liberal law professor Lawrence Lessig who wants tax financed elections!

Please also urge your own state delegate and senator to OPPOSE ALL APPLICATIONS ASKING CONGRESS TO CALL AN ARTICLE V CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION.

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,

Delegate Bob Marshall

Received this email yesterday from VA Delegate Bob Marshall. (He's a solid conservative & I have great respect for him.)

Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall is a senior Republican member of the Virginia General Assembly. Over the last 23 years, Bob has won 12 consecutive general elections in a district that had covered parts of Loudoun and Prince William Counties, and the City of Manassas Park.

Bob was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates 1991. He now serves on the Finance Committee, as well as the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee. He previously served as Vice-Chairman of the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee, and as Chairman of a Privileges and Elections Sub Committee, as well as Chairman of the Assembly’s Joint Stem Cell Study Committee. Bob also served on the Prince William County advisory committee which proposed building the Prince William Parkway, and has received numerous civic and service awards over the years.

Additionally, Bob worked as a staff member in the U.S. Congress — for both Congressman Bob Dornan (R-CA), and Senator Jeremiah Denton (R-AL).

Bob sought the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2008, and came within one weighted vote of upsetting former Governor Jim Gilmore at the Republican Convention held in Richmond while being outspent nearly 10-1.

If that’s the best you can do in the state of my birth, then perhaps I need to return to help family clear out the hysterical carnival barkers that have rooted themselves there. I know the area very very well and I can tell what kind of person Marshall is. He’s a Beltway creature feeding at whatever government trough he can push himself into. I can guarandamntee you he has never had a substantial non-government job unless it was government linked. The only real industry of Northern Virginia and Maryland is GOVERNMENT and he has found it feeds him.

So spare me his feeble canned resume of government crap jobs.

In any event, your precious Beltway Boy Marshall is grossly misinformed.

Send him this video of Mark Levin:

Get with what Mark says, not what your jerk spouts off.

I don’t understand Freepers’ seeming general attraction to a concon.

1. It’s never been convincingly demonstrated that they can’t put EVERYTHING on the table. Given the general depravity of the American people nowadays, having elected the Obamanation twice, I have little confidence that freedom of religion or the 2A would survive such a process.

2. The PTB are ALREADY ignoring the constitution and we’re doing nothing about it. So we want to write some more amendments for them to ignore?

So, those who respect the constitution have EVERYTHING to lose in a concon, but slime like the Obamanation have NOTHING to lose in a concon. Conservative support for a concon is therefore illogical, as far as I can tell.

These posts, I typically stop reading at the 1st word of "con", and don't get to the second word following it, another "con". BS.

The JBS'ers say they revere the Constitution. Well, that's exactly what an Article V *AMENDMENT* convention in fact is - using it *IS* revering the Constitutionh. Nothing more.

“Before election to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1991, Marshall was a staffer for the American Life League, an organization which opposes all forms of abortion and birth control. After his election, he continued to work for the organization, including a stint as Executive Director in the mid-1990s [4] and now as a research consultant.”

I don’t know, maybe being a pro-life activist is not “substantial” to you?

It’s a pipe dream. People don’t believe in pipe dreams for rational reasons, they just believe in them because they emotionally need something to believe in. Facing reality is too much for those types.

Obviously he could not bring home the bacon from any job until he discovered he could milk the government.

There are scoundrels in every corner of life.

It’s not a “concon” and the fact that you use that term reveals you are part of the disinformation smear or a consumer of it.

I see, so campaigning to end abortion makes one a “scoundrel”. Got it.

Get with what Mark says, not what your jerk spouts off.

The current government refuses to yield to the Constitution, so we need to amend the Constitution so they can continue to ignore it.

Why not just ask the States to assert their Constitutional Rights? Well they can't because the government won't let them.

Mark is great but more laws are never the answer when they fail to obey current laws. Look at immigration where everyone says that it is broken, when in fact, current law is just ignored, as will any new law if they don't like it.

> “I see, so campaigning to end abortion makes one a “scoundrel”. Got it.”

Haha! Nice try! I didn’t say that. But not everybody who states some conservative view is a conservative.

Mitt Romney calls himself a conservative yet supports the lie that Climate Change is caused by humankind.

Mitch McConnell calls himself a conservative yet votes to fund Obamacare.

John Boehner calls himself a conservative yet votes to fund Executive Amnesty.

And the list goes on and on.

Someone saying “I AM PRO-LIFE! THEREFORE SUPPORT ME”, is going to have to DO a lot more than just talk and for a long period of time before people are convinced they are geniune.

Look at the Levin video, then we’ll talk:

Why say “people” plural? Right now, it’s just you, singular, who is questioning this guy (originally without even bothering to check out his background).
