Climate Change’s Bottom Line
New York Times ^ | January 31, 2015 | By BURT HELM

Posted on 02/01/2015 6:08:36 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

It was 8 degrees in Minneapolis on a recent January day, and out on Interstate 394, snow whipped against the windshields of drivers on their morning commutes. But inside the offices of Cargill, the food conglomerate, Greg Page, the company’s executive chairman, felt compelled to talk about global warming.

Mr. Page is a member of the Risky Business Project, an unusual collection of business and policy leaders determined to prepare American companies for climate change. It’s a prestigious club, counting a former senator, five former White House cabinet members, two former mayors and two billionaires in the group. The 10 men and women who serve on the governing committee don’t agree on much. Some are Democrats, some Republicans.

Even when it comes to dealing with climate change, they have very different perspectives. Some advocate a national carbon tax, some want to mandate companies to disclose their climate risks.

The group is led by three men: Tom Steyer, the hedge fund billionaire; Henry M. Paulson Jr., the former chief executive of Goldman Sachs and the Treasury secretary under President George W. Bush; and Michael R. Bloomberg, New York City’s former mayor.

Bit by bit, the Risky Business Project’s committee members hope to turn the tide, bringing Congress around to the way that a majority of Americans feels. “We’ve made progress on things like civil rights, smoking, gay marriage and other things that seemed impossible to move when businesspeople joined the silent majority,” said Mr. Cisneros. “Congress tends not to act until the broad mainstream, including business, is aboard.”

And if business feels the pain in its wallet, it will feel the heat to act, even on the coldest of days.

" Bit by bit, the Risky Business Project’s committee members hope to turn the tide, bringing Congress around to the way that a majority of Americans feels. "

Well there's a big lie right there- the majority of America does not believe in this manmade climate hoax.

They’re all so altruistic! These billionaires. There couldn’t be some other reason to impose market crushing policies that would eliminate small business could there?

If a carbon tax were collected, segregated, and returned to taxpayers in proportion to the amount of tax they paid, it would depress the use of carbon without side effects.

There’s two obvious problems here:

1) That would NEVER happen. Once the tax is collected, the government will waste it in new and unproductive ways, so you can’t separate the carbon regulating function from the growth of government.

2) It’s probably un-necessary and foolish, as AGW is not proven; the data has been politicized and manipulated; and... I’d keep going, but I’ve got to go shovel more snow.

This is the second winter in a row of below-average temperatures in the northern United States.

Now, I can see getting a few polar air masses coming down and sitting on our heads for a while, and we could STILL have what's called "global warming".

But here's the thing: we're not getting any temperatures over freezing, and haven't or the past two years. We should get some hot flashes during the winter, if there is indeed "global warming".

Ain't happening. We just keep getting snow, and more snow, and snow, and more snow. And it's not melting.

This is all a cash play by the Watermelon elites (Green on the outside, Red on the inside). They're trying to con the rubes into new taxes and levies.

Steyer, Paulson and Bloomberg.

It should be named the Oligarch Project.

Maybe Congress can pass legislation MANDATING “global warming”.

But they all do agree on one issue: Shifts in weather over the next few decades will most likely cost American companies hundreds of billions of dollars, and they have no choice but to adapt.

Either they are stupid or ill informed or have a hidden agenda. It is not hard to imagine their hidden agenda (Goldman Sachs wants the money, etc) but they are also ill-informed. The predicted changes in the weather over the long run is for it to become more benign. For example the stronger mid-latitude storms will move north. Without that positive feedback the planet cannot warm enough t melt the Greenland ice cap. Also milder winters, longer growing seasons etc will lower costs and increase productivity.

Not as bad as last winter.

A list of billionaires with no science background telling America to trust them on a pseudo science backed up by scientists who get 100% of their funding from the Gov to investigate a pseudo science.

I ran into the same thing at the University of Minnesota back in the early 80’s with a professor investigating Acid Rain.
We never found anything useful but he got his funding.

Opiate of the liberal masses. They had to change title from global warming to climate change. Like good little Marxist they are allowed to lie and cheat to get their Leftist agenda passed.

The bottom line is that the AGW proponents have to resort to collusion in suppression of peer review of their so-called science, browbeating and government intrusion for political goal, and concocting some fantastic explanation why their prior works are not false when betrayed by climate events nearly every day of the calendar year.

I fully expect AGW nuts to band together Muslims for an Islamic AGW Jihad.

Power, money, control and ideological/financial greed.

"Islam" means submission. The religion of global warming demands submission of your liberty to a government who will provide moderate weather, state-run healthcare, and 'free' stuff ranging from cell phones to Associate Degrees in black studies. Liberalism is a jihad against free market capitalism.

I can agree with the technical definition. My point is that the one thing this AGW movement is missing is outright terrorism and violence on a large scale. They will eventually get to this, which will complete their aggregation with Islam as a violent influence.
