"Could you be a church in Selma and not march, just handle your own community?" says pastor Stan Mitchell of GracePointe Church. "I don’t think I can do that."

Three Sundays ago in Franklin, Tenn., twenty minutes south of Nashville and in the heart of the country’s contemporary Christian music industry, pastor Stan Mitchell of GracePointe Church preached what was perhaps the most important sermon of his life. You can watch it above–start around 44:40 if you are short on time.

....at the end of the article does read this now heretical church has lost half its members.

Yep. The "pastor" is clearly against the Bible. His "journey" is what is his guiding principle.

” Born into a five-generation, classical Pentecostal family, my perspective on God and spirituality has widened considerably into a more inclusive vision; one which embraces the liturgical, evangelical and charismatic streams of the Christian Church. While I am “tribally” a 21st century, evangelical minister, I have a heart to see the historical, contemporary and future manifestations of the Church converge, truly informed and benefited one by the other.”

http://gracepointe.net/meet-the-pastor/

The church’s home page describes itself as

“Loving God | Loving Self | Loving Others”

“We experience God through creation, tradition, reason, scripture and the every-day moments of life. We believe in the liberty of individual conscience, the call of every person to live out their own journey, and the responsibility of each of us to be the express image of God in the world.

God loves us immensely and is not to be feared. At GracePointe we believe that Jesus’ life, death and resurrection teach us who we are – the beloved children of God. We love God best when we fulfill our lives’ purpose of loving ourselves and others.

If you have ever wondered if you belong, we’ve all wondered that. Our Church expresses its love in the radical hospitality of Jesus – welcoming all persons into our midst, without regard to race, age, gender, sexual orientation, or physical abilities. You are part of the human family and thus our family, God’s family. So welcome to GracePointe Church.”

http://gracepointe.net/about/what-we-believe/

So this is NOT an Evangelical Church.

“GracePointe exists to provide a safe place to better understand and experience God’s love and full acceptance of us, as we are, and His commitment to the process of making us whole in Christ.”

God loves us where we are, but not AS WE ARE.

God demands repentance. Until we repent, we are children of wrath. We become sons of God in Christ, but we are not all the sons of God.

This is a church that has rejected the Gospel: REPENT and BELIEVE. It rejects both.

>>I had not thought of that, the donation$ angle. But I watch HGTV a lot and the homes that are owned by two gay men are always so nice. I figure two men with the kind of incomes that men can make, much more than two women or a man and a woman can earn. Lots of donations!

I’ve been saying that since the push for gay marriage really got going. Imagine how efficient a household could be with a husband and one wife having good careers and another wife that stays home to raise and educate the children and be the manager of the household.

Anyone who stands for gay marriage would be hypocritical to oppose polygamy.

People who are not looking for salvation, but who are looking for someone to affirm them in their sin. The Bible describes them as having "itching ears", and they just want someone to scratch the itch - "having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof."

This is certainly not a Bible based evangelical church. It is preaching a false gospel, and the members of this church are being duped. God will not be mocked. I pray for their repentance and salvation.

It isn't about marriage equality. It is about letting the homo crowd destroy the meaning and institution of marriage as we know it.

The most telling statistic is that 80% of heterosexual women and 70% of heterosexual men remain faithfully monogamous. Among homos, the corresponding rates are 7% for women and 3% for men.

"Marriage equality" doesn't even come close to existence in reality, so it can't come close to existing in law. While it may be possible to address things like hospital visitations and the like with civil union laws, it is not possible to redefine marriage to satisfy a maximum of a 3% of a 3% subset without destroying the meaning completely. Which, coincidentally, is the very objective of the "marriage equality" crowd.

The history of mankind is a history of people making God what they want Him to be, not what He is. This is just another one.

This is only logical. Any “church” that sanctions divorce and contraception has long ago surrendered to the same error: that (for them) marriage is no more that a license for sexual access, with satisfaction of the principals being the only point.

There are lots of frauds out there today. I heard a man who calls himself a christian minister give a sermon on burritos and then name drop a liberals org like mother jones. He's making sure everyone know they won't feel uncomfortable in his church about their sins.

At church yesterday our pastor dissected exactly how marriage worked and the roles played by the mother and father that formed the building blocks of every civilization. Destroy that foundation and you can bring any nation into ruin. We forget how much the positive impact a good mother and father can have on their children’s lives until we remove it and see the ensuing domino effect. The leftists know this and are doing their best to pervert it and destroy its sanctity. The only reason they have gotten this far is because the younger generation is preoccupied with technology and oesnt understand or appreciate the concept of wisdom IMO

They can only destroy the meaning of marriage for those who have been conditioned to rely on the civil authorities for their definition of marriage. For many the state’s definition hasn’t been correct for centuries, for many more since the state created civil no-fault divorce. Now it is ‘gay marriage’ and who knows what other impossibilities in the coming decades. The only way the state in the modern era can define marriage is by whatever judges, pols, or the voting majority think about it at any one time.

Also true. As our former morning drive show host put it “To a liberal, 5000 years of recorded human history means absolutely nothing now that they are here.”

There is no point of belonging to a “church” that doesn’t follow the Bible. In fact, it is hazardous to your soul.
This is so pervasive now; the remnant will become a book of Acts Church and meet in each other’s homes.

They know the homos have more money to drop in their offering plates. Another “religious” group sells their souls to the Devil.

I think it is more than that. Man has a natural (and destructive) inclination to desire the praise of man more than God. The World (at least the Government, Educrats, Media, and Hollywood) is embracing the abomination of sexual immorality - and in particular the sodomite behavior - so men want the praise of this four-headed beast.

It is terrible that anyone gets swallowed up into bending the knee to this lie, but more so for a pastor. He should know better, and he had a flock under his care. Ultimately this pastor just proved himself to be another wolf in sheep's clothing.

I used to go to this church. I know Pastor Stan fairly well. He has a somewhat interesting past which I will not go into here since I’m a sinner too and I’m not going to sling arrows at him for his human foibles. However...I left this church after he sat in on a marriage counseling session where the husband (who admitted cheating) said, “I may have cheated but I believe in a loving, forgiving God who forgives me when I cheat.” Pastor Stan agreed with no caveats. Sorry...I believe in forgiveness too but its not a “get out of jail free” card to continue sinning once you have supposedly repented.

Any “church” which claims that repentance is optional is well down the road to apostasy.

I’ve been checking out the General Baptist Convention of Texas, since I’m considering a church which associates with them, and the convention’s main theological spokesman essentially makes this exact point, that repentance is optional for salvation.

I’m backing away real fast.

I don’t claim to be a Christian doctrine expert. But I know that God hates sin and if you sin, you’d better repent and try your best not to sin again. God forgives for sure and I’m thankful He does. But you can’t go through life committing sin with the intention of asking for forgiveness afterward. When I questioned Pastor Stan about this he totally said all sin is forgivable...even repeated sin. I know God forgives us repeatedly but there’s something wrong with your logic when you easily commit sin with the assumption that forgiveness follows as soon as you ask. Maybe I’m wrong but don’t you have to TRY not to sin???
