Sen. Ted Cruz implores White House to arm Ukrainian fighters

Sen. Ted Cruz slammed the Obama administration's approach to the Ukraine crisis, saying the White House should take a more aggressive role to shore up the nation's defenses against Russia.

The Texas Republican said the strategy employed by the United States and Germany "makes no sense, and it isn't working. It is long past time for us to step forward and provide defensive weapons."

The comments from Cruz, who was speaking on CNN's "State of the Union" from the Munich Security Conference in Germany, come as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande have been negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine has accused Putin of backing rebels in eastern Ukraine in an attempt to absorb that area into Russia. Putin has denied involvement.

Go Cruz.

It’s nice to hear a little Reagan in the GOP.

Arms aren’t enough, those concerned should get a one-way ticket to Kiev and volunteer personally, the “Ukranians” sure dont seem up for it:

http://www.the-american-interest.com/2015/02/04/ukraines-draft-troubles/

...and I say “one-way ticket” not because it is suicidal, just that freedom loving Ukraine won’t let those of military age leave:

Don’t be a child.

Since you are new to FR, you should know that we have a huge percentage of vets, and no one needs to be of military age, or willing to sign on with foreign armies to oppose you lefty pro-Russian politics.

Why don’t you go support the Russian invasion in person if that is the way you think?

You can join the Russian Army, who are mostly 1 year draftees.

That’s pretty funny, but you get my point.

It’s not the business of the USA to get entangled in a conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

So, I will not volunteer for Russia, just like you won’t volunteer for Ukraine.

No, I don’t get your point at all.

I have two honorable discharges and my son has one and my dad had one, and my brothers and step brother all have one.

All of us except my dad served to protect this countries from Russia primarily, as Americans, a member of the NATO alliance to defend us and our allies and the world from Russia.

Right now Russia is invading Ukraine to enslave them forever and to move their Army right up to NATO borders and better their strategic position, as they try to rebuild themselves to become the threat again, that they were just a few years ago.

Rebuilding the evil empire isn’t something to ignore and allow to happen.

“It’s nice to hear a little Reagan in the GOP.”

In the deal to end the cold war, didn’t Reagan tell Gorbachev “Don’t meddle on our borders and we won’t meddle on yours.”?

Today, Reagan would never allow Putin to get away with what he is doing.

Don’t confuse the situation in the 1980s with today, and especially to the extent that you try to use it to defend Russia rebuilding.

We should speak quietly and have a big stick. Not boldly or threateningly while waving around a badminton.

In all fairness, if an army is to a nation as a knife is to a man, then sharpening your knife inclines you to test the edge. Meaning that your military leanings incline you towards action, right or wrong. The military does the job when diplomacy fails, and our military is superb. But we must be careful how to use it, just as we men don't use our knives to cut another's meat. This is not our fight, out continent, or our country that is in danger.

The USSR had a stated policy of defeating the United States of America, Russia does not.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but it is accepting volunteers up to the age of sixty—

Not volunteers. They are actually drafting those people.

From http://www.kyivpost.com/content/kyiv-post-plus/not-everyone-answering-ukraines-call-to-mobilize-for-war-380055.html

“The draft officers have been tapping men from 20 to 60 years old and women of 20 to 50 years old with relevant military service experience and training. “

The people are not happy about it.

Well isn’t that sweet, so my being interested enough in foreign affairs and protecting America to want to serve to protect us against Russia, is the very reason that my opinion counts less when discussing this Russian invasion.

Thank you Noam Chomsky, that was brilliant attempt to eliminate conservatives and veteran freepers from the discussion, as you and Obama join hands in submission.

Great, have your people contact our people and explain that we don’t have any official paper saying that Russia is invading Ukraine and conquering a nation on our NATO borders as they strive to recover their power to threaten us.

You can also contact all the NATO nations that feel deeply threatened and that have already lived as slaves under the last time that Russia conquered them.

So, I will not volunteer for Russia, just like you won’t volunteer for Ukraine.

Straw man fallacy.

The issue is about sending weapons, not troops.

Cruz jumped the shark. Did you notice he was next to last in Iowa and New Hampshire polls.

I like Cruz but he's fading fast imo mostly because of his preachy speech in the Iowa and now his reckless hawkish talk.
